  1. 1. Thermal Crack Risk Estimation and Material Properties of Young Concrete

    Author : Anders Hösthagen; Jan-Erik Jonasson; Mårten Larson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal cracking risk; young concrete; Equivalent Restraint Method; strength development; heat of hydration; creep; shrinkage; thermal dilation; modeling; field observations; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents how to establish a theoretical model to predict risk of thermal cracking in young concrete when cast on ground or an arbitrary construction. The crack risk in young concrete is determined in two steps: 1) calculation of temperature distribution within newly cast concrete and adjacent structure; 2) calculation of stresses caused by thermal and moisture (due to self-desiccation, if drying shrinkage not included) changes in the analyzed structure. 2. 2. Functional Fibers for Biomedical and Thermal Management Applications

    Author : Carl Zandén; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microsystems; thermal management; thermal interface material; cell-scaffold interaction; metal matrix composite; fibers; microfluidic system; plasma surface modification; scaffold; electrospinning;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the integration of electrospun polymeric structures in two fields; fibrous scaffolds as cell culture substrates for biomedical applications and fiber carrier networks in metal matrix polymer composites as thermal interface materials in microsystems. Electrospinning has been found to carry great potential for a range of future biomedical engineering applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Engine Thermal Management in Heavy Duty Vehicles

    Author : Arne Andersson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Control Simulation; Heat Exchangers; Heat Transfer; Thermal Management; Turbomachinery;

    Abstract : Future regulations on noise and exhaust emissions have a large impact on heavy duty engine installations. Cooled EGR is used for NOx abatement. Better sealed engine encapsulations are used to meet new noise regulations. Engine thermal management is therefore becoming an increasingly important discipline. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improvement of Thermal Comfort in Buildings through Passive Design

    Author : Marcelino Januário Rodrigues; Byggnadskonstruktion; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Buildings; Sustainability; Energy Efficiency; Passive Design; Orientation; Shading; Ventilation; Materials; Temperatures; Thermal Comfort; Simulations; Retrofitting; Hot Humid Regions.;

    Abstract : In hot humid regions the high outdoor temperature has negative effects on the indoor temperature of buildings that are not designed to cope with the local climate. This leads to discomfort for the occupants. READ MORE

  5. 5. Developing strategies for improved economic performance and reduced climate impact of landfill mining in Europe

    Author : John Laurence Esguerra; Joakim Krook; Niclas Svensson; Steven Van Passel; Anders Damgaard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; waste management; landfill management; resource recovery; sustainability assessment; emerging concept;

    Abstract : Landfill mining refers to the re-circulation of resources from the previously deposited wastes. It is an alternative approach for managing landfills that integrates resource recovery with site remediation. READ MORE
