  1. 1. Urban building energy modeling : A systematic evaluation of modeling and simulation approaches

    Author : Fatemeh Johari; Joakim Widén; Joakim Munkhammar; Olga Kordas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban building energy modeling; Urban energy Planning; Bottom-up energy modeling; Thermal zoning; Model complexity;

    Abstract : Urban energy system planning can play a pivotal role in the transition of urban areas towards energy efficiency and carbon neutrality. With the building sector being one of the main components of the urban energy system, there is a great opportunity for improving energy efficiency in cities if the spatio-temporal patterns of energy use in the building sector are accurately identified. 2. 2. Advances in Thermal Insulation : Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings

    Author : Thomas Thorsell; Folke Björk; Mark Bomberg; Targo Kalamees; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum insulation panels; VIP; serpentine edge; thermal bridge; composite film; gas diffusion; defect dominated; holistic approach; building enclosure; integrated testing and modeling; energy equivalent; field performance; air flow; thermal insulation efficiency;

    Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermal Crack Risk Estimation and Material Properties of Young Concrete

    Author : Anders Hösthagen; Jan-Erik Jonasson; Mårten Larson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal cracking risk; young concrete; Equivalent Restraint Method; strength development; heat of hydration; creep; shrinkage; thermal dilation; modeling; field observations; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents how to establish a theoretical model to predict risk of thermal cracking in young concrete when cast on ground or an arbitrary construction. The crack risk in young concrete is determined in two steps: 1) calculation of temperature distribution within newly cast concrete and adjacent structure; 2) calculation of stresses caused by thermal and moisture (due to self-desiccation, if drying shrinkage not included) changes in the analyzed structure. 4. 4. Lifetime modeling and management of transformers

    Author : Johanna Rosenlind; Rajeev Thottappillill; Zhong Dong Wang; KTH; []
    Keywords : transformers; lifetime modeling; asset management; thermal modeling; lifetime estimation;

    Abstract : This work have studied and developed lifetime estimation methods for the power transformer and how these could be used for asset management purposes. It is researchperformed in the intersection of the fields of reliability theory, statistical analysis, and stochastic process theory applied to lifetime estimations and management of transformers. 5. 5. Failure of thermal barrier coatings under thermal and mechanical fatigue loading : microstructural observations and modelling aspects

    Author : Håkan Brodin; Anette M. Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : thermal barrier coating; TBC; delamination; crack initiation; crack propagation; crack growth; oxidation; alumina; spinel; MCrAIY; diffusion; fatigue; modelling; modeling; degradation; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Industrial and air-borne gas turbine hot components suffer from creep, oxidation, corrosion and microstructural degradation if not shielded from the hot and aggressive combustion gases. Two major strategies commercially available are adopted; film cooling by pressurised air and application of protective coatings. READ MORE
