  1. 1. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion

    Author : Henrik Thunman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; single particle; modelling; fluidized bed; thermochemical conversion; fixed bed; coal; thermal conductivity; fuel loading; measurements; thermochemical properties; biofuels; combustion; grate;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 2. 2. Fuel conversion and ash formation interactions : a thermochemical study on lignocellulosic biomass

    Author : Anna Strandberg; Markus Broström; Rainer Backman; Christoffer Boman; Maria Zevenhoven; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Char conversion; pyrolysis; devolatilization; ash transformation; biomass; fuel characterization; fuel composition; ash composition; silicate formation; carbonate formation; thermogravimetric analysis; micro-tomography;

    Abstract : Biomass is considered to be CO2 neutral, and to be able to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels the need for expanded and sustainable biomass feedstock is increasing. Ash-related problems are some of the most important aspects of this increasing use of new biomass assortments in thermal energy conversion systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental and modelling studies of the thermophysical and thermochemical properties of some slag systems

    Author : Lijun Wang; Seshadri Seetharaman; Kuo-Chih Chou; Miyuki Hayashi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : In order to optimize the metallurgical processes it is necessary to improve the understandings of the industrial slag properties, which include thermophysical and thermochemical properties. In the present study Mass Triangle Model was applied to predict these properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical Simulation of Combustion and Gasification of Biomass Particles

    Author : Fatehi Hesameddin; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermochemical Conversion; Pyrolysis; Gasification; Combustion; Biomass;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a numerical approach is adopted to study biomass thermochemical conversion. Detailed physical and chemical processes involved in the thermochemical conversion of biomass are considered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characteristic Properties and Applications of Fine Particles in Biomass Gasification

    Author : Azhar Malik; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gasification; Biomass; Fine particles; catalyst deactivation; dilution probe sampling; organic;

    Abstract : The gasification of biomass is a promising route to increase the share of renewable sources in the energy mix. Besides having an overall higher thermal efficiency than combustion, it also offers the possibility of producing gaseous and liquid biofuels that can be used in the transport sector. READ MORE
