  1. 1. Hemodynamic and cardiometabolic studies in patients with distributive circulatory dysfunctions : with special reference to the effects of the beta-1-adrenoreceptor agonist prenalterol

    Author : Sebastian Reiz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aortic aneurysm surgery; gram negative septic shock; hemodynamics; myocardial metabolism; thermodilution; thoracic epidural block; volume loading; prenalterol;

    Abstract : A total of 49 patients were studied, using invasive hemodynamic techniques with systemic arterial, pulmonary artery and right atrial pressure recordings together with thermodilution cardiac output determinations. Sixteen of the patients were also subjected to cardiometabolic studies, using measurement of coronary sinus blood flow by the continuous thermodilution technique and analyses of oxygen content and lactate concentration in the systemic and coronary circulation. 3. 3. Left ventricular filling during coronary artery bypass grafting

    Author : Sten Samuelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Heart: surgery; coronary artery revascularization; ventricle; mitral valve Cardiopulmonary bypass Cardiac output Thermodilution Echocardiography: transesophageal; two-dimensional; Doppler Radionuclide ventriculographySten Samue;

    Abstract : Left ventricular (LV) filling, determination of preload, right ventricular end-diastolic volumes, volume contributions during early (E) and atrial (A) phases of LV filling and mitral valve opening areas were studied in 75 patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The purposes of the study were: (1) To evaluate changes in LV filling judged as peak velocity E/A ratios determined by Doppler transesophageal echocardiography during and in the early phase after CABG. 4. 4. Lung Emphysema & Cardiac Function

    Author : Kirsten Jörgensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : emphysema; hemodynamics; ventricular end-diastolic volumes; lung volume reduction; ventricular function; transoesophageal echocardiography; magnetic resonance imaging; diastole; simendan; hypertrophy;

    Abstract : Patients with severe lung emphysema have poor quality of life because of impaired lung function and reduced exercise tolerance. Concomitant heart disease in severe emphysema is well recognised. The prevailing view is that mainly the right side of the heart is involved, while the issue of left ventricular (LV) involvement is less studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Performance of a revised capnodynamic method for cardiac output monitoring

    Author : Thorir Sigmundsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cardiac output;

    Abstract : Cardiac output (CO) monitoring is ideal for guiding fluid, vasopressor and inotropic therapy for sufficient oxygen delivery and may improve outcome in high risk surgery. In this context, many minimally-and non-invasive methods have emerged during recent years, however, they appear less reliable when compared to the thermodilution methods during rapid changes in vascular volume and resistance, a common feature during major surgery.
