  1. 6. Capacitive Mixing for Extracting Concentration Gradient Energy

    Author : Zhi Zou; Longcheng Liu; Chia-Hung Hou; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capacitive mixing; salinity gradient energy; salt difference energy; electric double layer; flow electrode CapMix; kapacitiv blandning; salthaltsgradientenergi; saltskillnadsenergi; elektriskt dubbelskikt; flödeselektrod CapMix.; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Capacitive mixing (CapMix) is a renewable method of extracting energy from the salinity gradient energy (SGE) between seawater and freshwater. The classical CapMix systems using solid electrodes generate electricity by periodically circulating seawater and freshwater into the CapMix system. READ MORE

  2. 7. Effects of Macromolecular Crowding on Protein Folding : - in-vitro equilibrium and kinetic studies on selected model systems

    Author : Alexander Christiansen; Pernilla Wittung-Stafshede; Thomas Kiefhaber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein Folding; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume; spectroscopy; stopped-flow; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Protein folding is the process during which an extended and unstructured polypeptide converts to its compact folded structure that is most often the functional state. The process has been characterized extensively in dilute buffer in-vitro during the last decades but the actual biological place for this process is the inside of living cells. READ MORE

  3. 8. Methodologies for Non-aqueous Systems and Precipitating Systems as Carbon Capture Technologies : A case-study of AMP-NMP

    Author : Meher Sanku; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CO2 capture; non-aqueous; precipitating; thermodynamic model; crystallization kinetics;

    Abstract : In order to combat the effects of climate change, it is important to use a combination of solutions to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible. Carbon capture and sequestration is one such technology that can be used to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of many industrial plants. READ MORE

  4. 9. Theoretical and experimental studies of surface and interfacial phenomena involving steel surfaces

    Author : Weimin Cao; Seshadri Seetharaman; Oleg Ostrovski; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sulfur; Oxygen; Adsorption; Iron surface; ab initio calculations; Adsorption energy; Work function; Difference charge density; Magnetic properties; Thermodynamic stability; Average velocity; Monte Carlo simulation; X-ray sessile drop method; Mass transfer; Interfacial velocity; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present work was initiated to investigate the surface- and interfacial phenomena for iron and slag/iron systems. The aim was to understand the mechanism of the effect of surface active elements on surface and interfacial properties. READ MORE

  5. 10. Studies on dephosphorisation during steelmaking

    Author : Somnath Basu; Seshadri Seetharaman; Nobuo Sano; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : This work is aimed at understanding the thermodynamic principles influencing the phosphorus partition between slag and steel during steelmaking, particularly during refining of high-phosphorus hot metal using the basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) process. Mapping of the slag path has been carried out using a mass balance model based on input conditions and off-gas analysis, which has been validated by intermediate measurements of slag and metal composition in an industrial basic oxygen furnace (BOF).
