1. Design, Synthesis and Thermodynamic Studies of Galectin Ligands
Abstract : The signaling within and between cells in biology is governed by molecular recognition between natural or synthetic ligands and proteins. This thesis project aimed to investigate the thermodynamic properties of specific interaction between synthetic ligands and galectin proteins. READ MORE

2. Thermodynamic Studies of Macromolecular Models
Abstract : The thermodynamic properties of single chain polyelectrolyte and protein models are studied using Monte Carlo simulations and (for the polyelectrolyte models) variational calculations and high- and low-temperature expansions. A variational method is used for minimizing Lennard-Jones energies and for estimating end-to-end distances for a rigid Coulomb chain at finite temperatures. READ MORE

3. Recovery of iron and manganese values from metallurgical slags by the oxidation route
Abstract : In the modern practice, a sustainable development strategy in a domain of wasteutilization is shifting its focus from a general completeness of recycling to a morespecific attention to efficiently utilize elements in the wastes. This is well-illustrated bythe steelmaking slag industries. READ MORE

4. Studies of Steel/Slag Equilibria using Computational Thermodynamics
Abstract : The main focus in the present work concerns calculations on steel/slag equilibria. Thermodynamic software and databases are now powerful and accurate enough to give reliable results when applied to complex metallurgical processes. One example is the decarburization process of high alloyed steels. READ MORE

5. Thermodynamic modelling and assessment of some alumino-silicate systems
Abstract : Alumino-silicate systems are of great interest for materials scientists and geochemists. Thermodynamic knowledge of these systems is useful in steel and ceramic industries, and for understanding geochemical processes. A popular and efficient approach used to obtain a self-consistent thermodynamic dataset is called CALPHAD. READ MORE
