1. Enzyme Cold Adaptation through Evolution of Protein Flexibility
Abstract : What lives, evolves. Macromolecular catalysis is a process, central to both evolutionary and metabolic aspect of life, as it provides a systematic bias favouring certain chemical processes. READ MORE

2. Discovery and applications of family AA9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases
Abstract : Auxililary activity family 9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (abbreviated as AA9s or LPMO9s) are fungal mono-copper enzymes capable of oxidatively cleaving various plant cell wall oligo- and/or polysaccharides. LPMO9s are key components of lignocellulolytic enzyme cocktails used in today’s biorefineries to break down biomass into fermentable sugars. READ MORE

3. A study of DNA interactive proteins and their origin from thermophilic Siphoviridae phages
Abstract : This thesis covers the results of studies on the amino acid sequence, three-dimensional structure, and activities of two types of DNA-interactive proteins: Holliday Junction resolving enzyme (represented by Hjc_15-6 isolated from phage Tth15-6) and DNA Polymerase I (represented by PolI_G20c, isolated from phage G20c), including studies on their homologous counterparts. As these proteins originate from two different, but related phages that infect Thermus thermophilus, the studies also include the evolutionary relationship between these and other related phages at genomic level. 4. On the Versatility of Microwave-Assisted Chemistry : Exemplified by Applications in Medicinal Chemistry, Heterocyclic Chemistry and Biochemistry
Abstract : Today, the demand for speed in drug discovery is constantly increasing, particularly in the iterative processes of hit validation and expansion and lead optimization. Irradiation with microwaves (MWs) has been applied in the area of organic synthesis to accelerate chemical reactions and to facilitate the generation of new chemical entities since 1986. READ MORE

5. Transglycosylation by Glycoside Hydrolases - Production and modification of alkyl glycosides
Abstract : To enable the transition to a green, bio-based economy, an extensive enzymatic toolbox competitive to traditional chemical procedures is needed. One strong area for enzymes is carbohydrate chemistry, due to the over-functionalized nature of carbohydrates, difficult to handle in traditional chemistry. READ MORE
