6. Novel Retaining Glycoside Hydrolases : Potential candidates for transglycosylation and hydrolysis
Abstract : Our society is moving towards renewable resources, where biomass, rich incarbohydrates, is producing chemicals and fuel. However, there are severallimitations when it comes to valorisation of the carbohydrates from renewablebiomass. READ MORE

7. Physiology of Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus: a hydrogen cell factory
Abstract : A high substrate conversion efficiency is a prerequisite for an economically feasible biohydrogen production. Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus is a strictly anaerobic extreme thermophilic bacterium that is able to convert the theoretical maximum of 4 mol/mol glucose to H2. READ MORE

8. Production and investigation of highly thermophilic multi-domain carbohydrate-active enzymes
Abstract : With the looming threat of climate change caused largely by an excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, recent scientific efforts have focused on the substitution of fossil fuels and other polluting compounds with more environmentally conscious choices. To this end, the investigation of biomass as both a renewable source of energy and as a chemical basis to produce high-value products is being extensively investigated. READ MORE

9. Xylan degradation by the thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus. Characterization and function of a thermostable xylanase
Abstract : A gene encoding a multidomain xylanase from the thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus has been cloned, sequenced and produced in Escherichia coli . The gene product was found to be a 109 kDa protein consisting of five domains. READ MORE

10. Glycoside hydrolases from Rhodothermus marinus Modular organisation and structure-function relationships
Abstract : The thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus produces several thermostable glycoside hydrolases. The studies presented in this thesis were performed on two enzymes, belonging to glycoside hydrolase families 10 and 12, produced by this microorganism. The family 10 xylanase, Xyn10A, is modular in architecture consisting of five domains or modules. READ MORE
