  1. 6. A thermostable alkaline protease from a new alkaliphilic Nesterenkonia sp

    Author : Shahrzad Bakhtiar; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; substrate specificity; crystallization; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; DNA-DNA hybridisation; 16S rDNA analysis; phenotypic characterisation; circular dichroism; differential scanning calorimetry; Nesterenkonia abyssinica; stability; calcium-independent; alkaline protease; alkaliphilic;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns a novel alkaline protease produced by an extremophilic microbial specie, designated as AL20, isolated from a feather sample collected at the shore of the alkaline soda lake Abjata in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. The isolate is a heterotrophic, alkaliphilic, halotolerant gram-positive, strictly aerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming bacterium. READ MORE

  2. 7. Some thermostable hormone-like polypeptides from the bovine pars distalis : preparation, identification and some aspects of their hormonal and immunological activity

    Author : Per Hallin; Uppsala universitet; []

  3. 8. Production and investigation of highly thermophilic multi-domain carbohydrate-active enzymes

    Author : Daniel Krska; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein structure; xylanase; carbohydrate esterase; multidomain enzymes; carbohydrate-active enzymes; thermostable enzymes; plant biomass degradation; Caldicellulosiruptor;

    Abstract : With the looming threat of climate change caused largely by an excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, recent scientific efforts have focused on the substitution of fossil fuels and other polluting compounds with more environmentally conscious choices. To this end, the investigation of biomass as both a renewable source of energy and as a chemical basis to produce high-value products is being extensively investigated. READ MORE

  4. 9. Molecular development of a thermostable β-glucosidase for modification of natural products

    Author : Sami Khan; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : Thermotoga neapolitana; TnBgl1A; Mutagenesis; Flavonoid; Quercetin; Immobilisation; Chaperones;

    Abstract : The gene encoding a β-glucosidase originating from the extreme thermophile Thermotoga neopolitana has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The aim was to produce a thermostable enzyme that could be used to remove sugar residues from glucosylated natural products classified as flavonoids by applying a method combining extraction in hot pressurized water with enzymatic hydrolysis. 5. 10. Thermostable Phytase from a Bacillus sp.: Heterologous Production, Mutation, Characterization and Assay Development

    Author : Tran Thi Thuy; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : ß-propeller phytase; recombinant protein; site-directed mutagenesis; phytate;

    Abstract : Phytase is an important enzyme in the food/feed industry. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of phytate, an anti-nutrient compound present in cereals and grains, to release orthophosphate and myo-inositol-6-phosphate with lower degrees of phosphorylation. READ MORE
