1. Continuous Fibre Reinforced Oxide/Oxide Composites
Abstract : The appealing properties of ceramics include retention of strength and hardness at high temperatures, chemical inertness and low density. However, monolithic ceramics fail in a brittle, unpredictable manner making them unsuitable for many applications where reliability is a key requirement. READ MORE

2. The role of Landau-Darrieus instability in flame dynamics and deflagration-to-detonation transition
Abstract : The role of intrinsic hydrodynamic instability of the premixed flame (known as Landau-Darrieus instability) in various flame phenomena is studied by means of direct numerical simulations of the complete system of hydrodynamic equations. Rigorous study of flame dynamics and effect of Landau-Darrieus instability is essential for all premixed combustion problems where multidimensional effects cannot be disregarded. READ MORE

3. Flame Dynamics and Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition
Abstract : Various premixed flame phenomena are studied by means of direct numerical simulations of the complete system of hydrodynamic equations. Rigorous study of flame dynamics is essential for all premixed combustion problems where multidimensional effects cannot be disregarded. The present thesis consists of six parts. READ MORE

4. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting
Abstract : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides. 5. Black liquor gasification : burner characteristics and syngas cooling
Abstract : Black liquor gasification at high temperature is a promising alternative to the conventional recovery boiler process used in chemical pulp mills today. Compared to a conventional recovery boiler a black liquor gasifier can increase the total energy efficiency of a chemical pulp mill and produce a synthesis gas that can be used for production of motor fuel.
