  1. 1. Safety with Mechanical Chest Compressions in CPR Clinical studies with the LUCAS™ device

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : David Smekal; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Mechanical chest compressions; Active compression-decompression; Injury; Autopsy; LUCAS; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation are of utmost importance although not without a risk. Many injuries are described but the incidence of these is hard to define due to methodological differences. It is strenuous to perform chest compressions and therefore mechanical chest compressions have been looked upon with interest. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving early diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome and resource utilisation in acute chest pain patients

    University dissertation from Medicine (Lund)

    Author : Jakob Lundager Hansen; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A high volume of acute chest pain patients, poor early diagnosis and high admission rates result in high resource utilization. In 1000 consecutively chest pain patients the majority of the direct cost was found due to admission time. The difference between mean cost of an “ACS-rule-out” admission and a discharge from the ED was 6.2 kSEK (9. READ MORE

  3. 3. In-hospital bed occupancy and the emergency department - effects on decisions about the level of care

  4. 4. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Aidla Trading AB/Kompendiet

    Author : Sara Asplund; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chest radiography; Chest tomosynthesis; Nodule detection; Observer performance; Free-response receiver operating characteristics;

    Abstract : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules. 5. 5. Ischaemic heart disease - risk assessment, diagnosis, and secondary preventive treatment in primary care with special reference to the relevance of exercise ECG

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Abstract : Background: Ischaemic heart disease is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to most general practitioners. We sought to identify diagnostic characteristics and prognoses of patients in primary care that received exercise electrocardiography (ECG). We compared the ECG test results with respect to probability of subsequent cardiologist referrals. READ MORE
