  1. 21. Quantitative 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy in diffuse liver disease

    Author : Bengt Norén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis were delineated to evaluate the diagnostic possibilities in patients with diffuse liver disease by using phosphorus-31 MR spectroscopy and comparing the results with clinical, laboratory and histopathological findings. For this purpose in all 38 patients and 25 controls without evidence of liver disease were examined. READ MORE

  2. 22. Quantitative magnetic resonance in diffuse liver and neurological disease

    Author : Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mapping--methods; Choline--analysis; Liver diseases--diagnosis; Magnetic resonance imaging--methods; Magnetic resonance spectroscopy--methods; Multiple sclerosis--diagnosis; Multiple sclerosis--metabolism; Nerve fibers; myelinated--metabolism; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance (MR) has become one of the most important diagnostic tools in modern medicine. It provides superior soft tissue contrast compared to other imaging modalities, it is extremely flexible as it can be used to image all parts of the body, and it is considered to be safe for patients. 3. 23. Studies on alcoholic liver disease

    Author : Knut Stokkeland; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : alcohol cirrhosis; cytochromes; autoantibodies; mortality; morbidity; prognosis; epidemiology; esophageal varices; lifetime drinking; lifetime alcohol intake;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the impact of alcoholic cirrhosis in Sweden, and the relation between drinking patterns and beverage types and alcoholic cirrhosis, and to evaluate the possible role of autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of alcohol related liver disease. We found that rats had appearance of IgG against rat CYP3A 1 and CYP2E 1 during chronic ethanol feeding We found that patients had reactivity against CYP3A4 and CYP2E I in about 20 to 30% and 10 to 20% of the alcoholic sera. 4. 24. Elimination of caffeine metabolites in man

    Author : Nikolaos Rodopoulos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : C8-oxidation capillary elearophoresis dimethylxanthines high-performance liquidchromatography liver cirrhosis N-acetylation N-demethylation monomethylurates monomethylxanthines;

    Abstract : Plasma, saliva and urinary caffeine (CA), paraxanthine (PX), theobromine (TB), theophylline (TP) and their metabolites were, after separation into fractions by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), quantitated by capillary electrophoresis (CE). In healthy adults, 96% of the total amount of excreted compounds derived from CA were dimethylxanthines (DMXs) and metabolites, the remainder 4% being nonmetabolized CA and its non-demethylated urate. 5. 25. A clinical epidemiological study on end-stage liver disease in Ghana

    Author : Yvonne Ayerki Nartey; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : End-stage liver disease (ESLD), including advanced liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is the final stage of long-standing injury to the liver due to risk factors such as chronic viral hepatitis and alcoholic liver disease. There is a high disease burden and mortality globally, especially in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries such as Ghana, where the primary cause of HCC and cirrhosis is infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV).
