  1. 1. Insulin secretion and ASNA-1-dependent function of the endoplasmic reticulum in C. elegans

    Author : Ola Billing; Gautam Kao; Jussi Jäntti; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell research; cellforskning; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : ASNA1 is a well-conserved ATPase involved in a wide range of functions, including cisplatin resistance, growth control, insulin secretion and targeting of tail-anchored (TA) proteins to membranes. It is a positive regulator of insulin secretion both in the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans and in humans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pathways that govern hematopoietic stem cell fate

    Author : Matilda Billing; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : hematopoies; Hematopoietic stem cell; TGF beta; Smad signaling; GATA2; p57;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) compose a rare population of undifferentiated cells, residing in the bone marrow of adult individuals, ensuring life-long maintenance and replenishment of the blood system. This fantastic achievement is possible owing to two special characteristics of the HSCs: their ability to make copies of themselves (self-renew), and their capacity to differentiate to all lineages of the blood system. 3. 3. Cognition Rehearsed : Recognition and Reproduction of Demonstrated Behavior

    Author : Erik Billing; Thomas Hellström; Lars Erik Janlert; Danica Kragic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Behavior Recognition; Learning and Adaptive Systems; Learning from Demonstration; Neurocomputational Modeling; Robot Learning; computer and systems sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : The work presented in this dissertation investigates techniques for robot Learning from Demonstration (LFD). LFD is a well established approach where the robot is to learn from a set of demonstrations. The dissertation focuses on LFD where a human teacher demonstrates a behavior by controlling the robot via teleoperation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cognitively inspired design : Rethink the wheel for self-driving cars

    Author : Sara Mahmoud; Serge Thill; Henrik Svensson; Erik Billing; Alessandro Di Nuovo; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial cognitive systems; AI; self-driving cars; cognitive paradigms; emergent paradigm; curriculum learning; embodiment; enaction; Interaction Lab ILAB ; Interaction Lab ILAB ;

    Abstract : This thesis examines Cognitively Inspired Design (CID), which is the process of transferring cognitive science frameworks and theories to intelligent systems in an application context. The thesis studies the relation between cognitive science and the traditional approach to developing systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metadata Management in Multi-Grids and Multi-Clouds

    Author : Daniel Espling; Erik Elmroth; Erwin Laure; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; grid computing; cloud computing; accounting; billing; metadata; monitoring; structure; fairshare; scheduling; federated; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Grid computing and cloud computing are two related paradigms used to access and use vast amounts of computational resources. The resources are often owned and managed by a third party, relieving the users from the costs and burdens of acquiring and managing a considerably large infrastructure themselves. READ MORE
