  1. 1. Environmental research collaboration : Cross-sector knowledge production in environmental science

    Author : Joacim Rosenlund; William Hogland; Mats Benner; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Triple helix; quintuple helix; Mode 3; cross-sector research collaboration; interactive research; boundaries; knowledge production; relevance of research; environmental science; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science; Sociology; Sociologi; Ledarskap; entreprenörskap och organisation; Ledarskap; entreprenörskap och organisation;

    Abstract : Increased interaction between science and society is recognised as one of the characteristics of contemporary science. Solving the complex environmental problems of our day also necessitate such interactions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Innovation Processes and Environmental Planning : Science and Technology Policies in a Regional Context

    Author : Katarina Larsen; Folke Snickars; Andrew Stirling; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Innovation; environmental planning; science and technology parks; strategic environmental research; environmental procurement; futures studies; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The understanding of environmental change and how it is influenced by innovation processes and advances in science and technology is multifaceted given the inherent uncertainty of the pace and direction of technology change, but also given the limits to anticipate future environmental effects of new technology. The doctoral thesis is organised in two parts. READ MORE

  3. 3. Boreal Lake Sediments as Sources and Sinks of Carbon

    Author : Cristian Gudasz; Tranvik Lars; David Bastviken; Susan Ziegler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boreal lakes; allochthonous; lake sediments; sediment mineralization; bacterial production; bacterial biomass; carbon cycle; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Limnologi; Limnology;

    Abstract : Inland waters process large amounts of organic carbon, contributing to CO2 and CH4 emissions, as well as storing organic carbon (OC) over geological timescales. Recently, it has been shown that the magnitude of these processes is of global significance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lake sediment as environmental archive : natural and anthropogenic influence on the chronology of trace elements

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the historical pollution of some seldom-monitored trace elements (SMTEs; Ag, Be, Ga, In, Sb and Tl) that have been involuntarily released for several thousands of years but whose usage have increased during the industrial era. Sediment cores from four rural lakes in a south to north transect in central Sweden, and two urban lakes have been used as environmental archives for chronological studies. READ MORE

    Abstract : It has been argued that for the management of complex issues such as sustainability, which transcend traditional policy sectors and require coordination between several different interests and actors, policymaking depends upon collaboration and integration processes between different sectors and tiers of government. The overall aim of this thesis is therefore to study how and why (or why not) policy integration processes are being developed in regional policymaking and what this means for the achievement of sustainable transport.
