  1. 1. Hepatitis B virus replication and integration

    Author : Simon B. Larsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; replication; integration; HBV DNA; HBsAg;

    Abstract : Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) affects 240 million people worldwide and may cause liver disease including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Initially patients have high levels of HBV DNA in their blood, no liver disease and express the e antigen (HBeAg). READ MORE

  2. 2. Chronic hepatitis B in children

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Ann Söderström; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Chronic hepatitis B affects more than 350 million people. In areas of high and intermediate endemicity, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is mainly contracted in the perinatal period or early childhood, and many of them become chronic carriers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic heterogeneity of hepatitis B and D viruses in chronic infection

    University dissertation from Yong Yuan Zhang, Dept. of Medical Microbiology, Section of Virology, University Hospital, MAS, 205 02 Malmo, SWEDEN

    Author : Yong Yuan Zhang; [1996]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; phylogenetic analysis; mutant; mutation; genetic heterogeneity; HBV; HDV; hepatitis B; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : During the prolonged course of chronic viral infection there is a continuous reciprocal interaction between the host immune defence system and the viral immunogens, and viral genetic mutations capable of circumventing host immune defence could be selected for. Our observation of increasing prevalence of heterogeneity in the DNA sequence coding for the ‘a1 determinant of HBsAg in patients with presumed increasing length of chronic HBV infection is in agreement with the assumption of accumulation of presumed escape mutants. Abstract : Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) was identified as an entity by the Swedish professor Jan Waldenström in the 1950s. It was then denoted lupoid hepatitis, characterized by liver inflammation and most often affecting young women. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic variability of hepatitis B virus in chronic infection

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Charles Hannoun; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; mutation; genotype; phylogeny; Recombination; coinfection; interferon; response;

    Abstract : Chronic hepatitis B is a major health problem, and may lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The liver damage in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is considered to be a result of the immune response, and not a cytopathic effect of the virus itself. READ MORE
