  1. 1. Factors regulating the origin and magnitude of carbon dioxide emissions from high-latitude lakes

    Author : Hendricus Verheijen; Jan Karlsson; Cristian Gudasz; David A. Seekell; Marcus Klaus; Anne Ojala; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lake; carbon dioxide; organic carbon; inorganic carbon; arctic; emission; environmental science; miljövetenskap; climate change; klimatförändringar; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Lake ecosystems receive, transmit and process terrestrial carbon and thereby link terrestrial, aquatic and global carbon cycles. Most lakes evade CO2 to the atmosphere, but the annual magnitude of CO2 evasion, as well as sources and mechanisms underpinning CO2 evasion from lakes are still largely unresolved. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Industrial Hygiene Applications : Assessment of Emissions from and Exposures in Wood Processing Industries

    Author : Urban Svedberg; Christer Edling; Bo Galle; Hans-Erik Högberg; Nils Plato; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) as an approach to the increasingly difficult air sampling challenges within the field of occupational and environmental hygiene. The application of FTIR is exemplified by the assessment of emissions from and exposures in the sawmill and pellet industries. READ MORE

    Abstract : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 4. 4. Isotope-based source apportionment of black carbon aerosols in the Eurasian Arctic

    Author : Patrik Winiger; Örjan Gustafsson; Meinrat O. Andreae; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Black Carbon; Radiocarbon; Air Pollution; Arctic Amplification; Climate Change; Arctic Haze; Atmospheric Transport Modeling; Emission Inventory; Carbon Isotopes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Aerosols change the Earth's energy balance. Black carbon (BC) aerosols are a product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass burning and cause a net warming through aerosol radiation interactions (ari) and aerosol cloud interactions (aci). READ MORE

  5. 5. Technical solutions for low-temperature heat emission in buildings

    Author : Adnan Ploskic; Sture Holmberg; Bjarne Olesen; KTH; []

    Abstract : The European Union is planning to greatly decrease energy consumption during the coming decades. The ultimate goal is to create sustainable communities that are energy neutral. One way of achieving this challenging goal may be to use efficient hydronic (water-based) heating systems supported by heat pumps. READ MORE
