  1. 1. Statistical Seismology Studies in Central America : b-value, seismic hazard and seismic quiescence

    Author : David Aníbal Monterroso Juárez; Ota Kulhánek; Stefan Wiemer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; b-value; seismic hazard; Monte Carlo; seismic quiescence; Central America; stress; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : The present thesis collects results of research applying theory and methods of statistical seismology to the seismicity of Central America, a region with a complex tectonic setting controlled by the interaction of four major plates, namely the Caribbean, Cocos, Nazca and North American plates.Three different earthquake catalogues were used for studies focused on stress in a tectonic volume, seismic hazard maps and seismicity patterns (precursors), covering the region 94ºW to 81ºW and 5ºN to 20ºN. 2. 2. Seismic tomography : Algorithms and applications

    Author : Zhengsheng Yao; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geophysics Specialized In Seismology; geofysik; med inriktning mot seismologi;

    Abstract : A preferred algorithm for seismic tomography needs to have capabilities including computational efficiency, minimal computer memory requirements, easy regularization and nonuniqueness analysis. In this thesis, regularised recursive least squares for seismic tomography is developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. A geophysical investigation of carbonate build-ups in the Baltic Basin using reflection seismic and well data

    Author : Tegan Levendal; Christopher Juhlin; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reflection seismic; Ordovician; Silurian; Carbonate mud mounds; Reefs; Gotland; Sweden; CAES; Seismic interpretation; OPAB dataset; 3D seismic; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : During the Late Ordovician, the region around Gotland was part of a shallow epicratonic basin in the southern subtropics. Low latitudes, relatively warm sea temperatures and the presence of a shallow marine environment promoted algae to flourish and diverse carbonate build-ups such as carbonate mounds and reefs developed on the southern margin of Baltica. 4. 4. Seismic imaging of deep crustal reflectivity in Sweden and Iceland

    Author : Niklas Juhojuntti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; seismic; reflectivity; Moho; crust; signal; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Abstract : Seismic reflection profiling, originally developed by the petroleum industry, was adapted to systematic imaging of deep structures some 25 years ago. In continental areas, these measurements often show weakly reflective upper crust and strongly reflective lower crust. READ MORE

  5. 5. 3D Time-lapse Analysis of Seismic Reflection Data to Characterize the Reservoir at the Ketzin CO2 Storage Pilot Site

    Author : Fei Huang; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Ari Tryggvason; Andy Chadwick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CO2 storage; 3D Time-lapse 4D ; Reservoir characterization; Seismic simulation; Spectral decomposition; Wavelet phase; Tuning frequency; Thin-layer thickness; Seismic monitoring; Seismic processing; Quantitative interpretation; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : 3D time-lapse seismics, also known as 4D seismics, have great potential for monitoring the migration of CO2 at underground storage sites. This thesis focuses on time-lapse analysis of 3D seismic reflection data acquired at the Ketzin CO2 geological storage site in order to improve understanding of the reservoir and how CO2 migrates within it.
