  1. 1. Ion transport in exocrine glands with reference to cystic fibrosis

    Author : Ailing Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ion transport; cystic fibrosis; submandibular gland; airway submucosal gland; X-ray microanalysis; cytosolic Ca2 concentration; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : Aspects of ion transport in rat submandibular gland acinar cells at the subcellular level, and the regulation of chloride secretion and calcium mobilization in cultured pig tracheal gland acinar cells were studied with reference to the disease cystic fibrosis.In adult rat submandibular gland acinar cells, both cholinergic and α-adrenergic stimulation induced efflux of K+ and of C1-, but the response was generally less with α-adrenergic stimulation. 2. 2. Salivary glands and oral lesions in diabetes mellitus : an experimental and clinical study with special reference to the influence of metabolic control and duration of the disease

    Author : Carl-Olof Reuterving; Erik Hägg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes mellitus; salivation; salivary glucose; saliva; submandibular gland; pilocarpine; root surface caries; periodontal disease; alloxan; feeding behavior; rats; humans;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is associated with several clinically significant abnormalities in the oral cavity and salivary glands, the most common being periodontitis, salivary gland enlargement and a sensation of dry mouth. The prevalence of dental caries in diabetics is mostly reported to be decreased or unaffected. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modulation of serous salivary gland function by the sympathetic nervous system : a biochemical and ultrastructural study with special reference to β-adrenoceptor subtypes

    Author : Roger Henriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Rat parotid gland; guinea-pig submandibular gland; ß-adrenoceptor subtypes; sympathetic denervation; sympathetic superstimulation; amylase secretion; cyclic AMP; ultrastructural stereology;

    Abstract : The aim of the present investigation was to study the influence of the sympathetic nervous system and of various adrenoceptor agents on enzyme secretion and morphology in rat parotid and guinea-pig submandibular glands. Biochemical methods were combined with electron microscopical techniques. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Autonomic Control of Blood Flow and Secretion in Salivary Glands. Functional and morphological aspects on muscarinic receptor subtypes in different species

    Author : Anders Ryberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Muscarinic receptor subtype; neuronal; non-neuronal; expression; secretion; blood flow; salivary gland; human; rat; sheep;

    Abstract : Parasympathetic nervous activity is the principal stimulus for evoking fluid responses within salivary glands. Concomitantly to the onset of this response, the blood flow increases. READ MORE

  5. 5. On The Innervation of Salivary Glands and Treatment of Dry Mouth - An Experimental and Clinical Study

    Author : Nina Khosravani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parotid gland; Denervation; Acetylcholine synthesis; Otic ganglion; Auriculo-temporal nerve; Facial nerve; Neuropeptides; Salivary gland hypofunction; Physostigmine;

    Abstract : Detailed knowledge of the innervation of the parotid gland is essential in basic studies on various neuroglandular phenomena as well as in various types of orofacial surgery. The innervation is more complex than usually depicted in Textbooks. READ MORE
