6. Fungal production and solid state chemistry of eritadenine : an integrated approach to development of an active pharmaceutical ingredient
Abstract : The present thesis demonstrates an integrated approach to the development of a potential active pharmaceutical ingredient, eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound originating from the shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes). The main areas covered in the thesis are a method for quantification of eritadenine, production of eritadenine by submerged cultivation of fungal mycelia and investigation of the influence of process parameters on mycelial growth and production, and finally solid state characterizations of eritadenine. 7. Development of bixin formulations. Extraction, microencapsulation, dispersibility and photostability
Abstract : The aril that covers the seeds of the plant species Bixa orellana is composed of the natural colorants bixin and norbixin, phenolic components and native carbohydrates composed of hemicellulose, starch, and a small fraction of proteins. Bixin is a hydrophobic carotenoid that is water insoluble and is mostly used for coloring oil-based formulations. READ MORE

8. Development of Methods for Determination of Fat and Trace Constituents in Food, with Emphasis on Supercritical Fluid Extraction
Abstract : Sample preparation is the most time-consuming step in an analysis. Traditional sample preparation techniques consume large amounts of organic solvents, are time-consuming and are difficult to automate. READ MORE

9. Hydrolases as Catalysts for Green Chemistry and Industrial Applications - Esterase, Lipase and Phytase
Abstract : The use of enzymes in industrial applications has been recognised for providing clean processes with minimal impact on the environment. This thesis presents studies on engineering of enzymes and enzyme-based processes in the light of green chemistry and environmental sustainability, and focuses on three hydrolases: esterase, lipase and phytase. 10. Chemical labelling methods for gel free based proteomics
Abstract : In this thesis different aspects of gel free procedures for mass spectrometry based proteome analysis are addressed, with emphasis on labelling techniques. It is based on three original articles where the effects imposed onto peptides upon modification are investigated, and the development of a new type of labelling strategy is described. READ MORE
