17. Analysis of Immunoglobulin Genes and Telomeres in B cell Lymphomas and Leukemias
Abstract : B cell lymphomas and leukemias are heterogeneous tumors with different cellular origins. Analysis of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes enables insight into the B cell progenitor, as Ig somatic hypermutation correlates with antigen-related B cell transit through the germinal center (GC). 18. Detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement with PCR for MRD analysis in lymphoproliferative disorders
Abstract : Immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene rearrangement occurs during early B-lymphocyte differentiation, assembling the different IGH gene segments to a functional gene, which can serve as a marker for study of lineage association and detection of Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in clonal diseases deriving from B-lymphocytes or their early differentiation stages. Use of a molecular marker for the leukemic cells could help improve treatment by monitoring therapeutic efficacy, predicting relapse, and identifying very small amounts of tumour cells contaminating autografts after purging or enrichment of stem cells. 19. Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia : population based studies of familial aggregation and prognostic factors
Abstract : BackgroundWaldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder with a world-wide incidence of 3-4 patients per million persons per year. In Sweden, the incidence was about three times higher, and approximately 100 patients per year are reported to the Swedish Lymphoma Registry (SLR). READ MORE

20. Bystander Cells and Prognosis in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Abstract : Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is characterised histologically by a minority of malignant Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells surrounded by benign cells, and clinically by a relatively good prognosis. The treatment, however, leads to a risk of serious side effects. READ MORE
