  1. 1. Architectural prototypes : modes of design development and architectural practice

    Author : Jonas Runberger; Katja Grillner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; architecture theory; design theory; prototype; performance; effect; affect; architectural design project; parametric model; design solution space; fabrication; production; industrial process; research by design; digital practice; projective practice; generative components; krets; parcel; splinegraft; urbantoys v.2; informed modularity; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is design driven, partly based on case studies in the form of experimental design projects developed mainly within the research and design collective Krets. It constitutes the first half of a PhD project that studies new technologies and techniques within design processes and the production of architecture, especially in relation to collaborative models. 2. 2. Structurally Informed Architectural Design

    Author : Laurens Luyten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; architect; structural engineer; architectural design; structural design; conceptual design; design collaboration;

    Abstract : Architectural form and its supporting structure are results of interdependent design processes that do not always develop in harmony: often major outlines of architectural form are decided before structural design is involved. This doctoral work investigates design collaborations between architects and structural engineers in which architecture and structure are designed in mutual agreement, and structural design is able to guide and inspire a creation of architectural form and space. 3. 3. The Office - An Explorative Study : Architectural Design's Impact on Health, Job Satisfaction & Well-being

    Author : Christina Bodin Danielsson; Magnus Rönn; Lennart Bodin; Frank Becker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; employees; office environment; office type; architectural features; functional features; architecture; experience; satisfaction; dissatisfaction; health; job satisfaction; perception; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis examines the office environment’s influence on employees’ perception oftheir workplaces, their organizations and their job satisfaction, as well as their health and wellbeing.It is based on an empirical study of 491 office employees from twenty-six companies anddivisions in large companies. 4. 4. Daylight Influence on Colour Design : Empirical Study on Perceived Colour and Colour Experience Indoors

    Author : Maud Hårleman; Jadwiga Krupinska; José Luis Caivano; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; architecture; interior colouring; spatial character; natural daylight; verbal description; colour reference box; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : It is known that one and the same interior colouring will appear different in rooms with windows facing north or facing south, but it is not known how natural daylight from these two compass points affects perceived colour and the ways in which colour is experienced. The objective is to describe the perceived colours to be expected in rooms with sunlight and diffused light, and thus develop a tool for colour design. READ MORE

  5. 5. Early Stage Architectural Design Practice Perspectives on Life Cycle Building Performance Assessment

    Author : Toivo Säwén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Early design stages; Participatory software development; Ethnographic interview; Literature review; Life cycle assessment; Building performance; Architecture;

    Abstract : Architectural practitioners can avoid negative social and environmental impacts of new construction by making decisions supported by impact quantification during design processes. However, most software tools developed for such quantification see little use in practice, especially in early design stages when decisions have the greatest influence. READ MORE
