  1. 1. Cellulose hydrolysis by Trichoderma reesei cellulases: Studies on adsorption, sugar production and synergism of cellobiohydrolase I, II and endoglucanase II

    Author : Jozsef Medve; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FPLC; cellulose hydrolysis; Trichoderma reesei; cellulase; cellobiohydrolase; endoglucanase; adsorption isotherm; synergism; enzyme purification; isoenzymes; quantitative analysis; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Three major cellulases, cellobiohydrolase I and II (CBH I and II) and endoglucanase II (EG II) of Trichoderma reesei have been purified by ion-exchange chromatography in an FPLC system. Microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel) was hydrolysed by the single enzymes and by equimolar mixtures of CBH I-CBH II and CBH I-EG II. READ MORE

  2. 2. Enhanced Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Lignocellulose in Bioethanol Production Substrate Interactions with Surfactants and Polymers

    Author : Johan Börjesson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []

    Abstract : Ethanol produced from cellulose is a promising future alternative fuel. The production process has three main steps: (i) pretreatment of raw material to increase degradability; (ii) enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose to produce glucose; (iii) fermentation of glucose into bioethanol. Abstract : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosics by the enzymatic hydrolysis process, which consists of a pretreatment step prior to hydrolysis, followed by fermentation and finally refining. This thesis deals with the development of the enzymatic process using softwood as raw material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling of enzyme kinetics on polymeric substrates by simulation : Enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose

    Author : Veljo Sild; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Biopolymers are an essential constituent of living matter. To develop new products and processes based on enzyme production and modification and hydrolysis of biopolymers, enzymes with well understood mechanism are required. It is impossible to derive a universal analytical model for every particular enzyme/polymer system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biorefining of lignocellulose : Detoxification of inhibitory hydrolysates and potential utilization of residual streams for production of enzymes

    Author : Adnan Cavka; Leif J. Jönsson; John N. Saddler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass is a renewable resource that can be utilized for the production of biofuels, chemicals, and bio-based materials. Biochemical conversion of lignocellulose to advanced biofuels, such as cellulosic ethanol, is generally performed through microbial fermentation of sugars generated by thermochemical pretreatment of the biomass followed by an enzymatic hydrolysis of the cellulose.
