  1. 21. Economic Project Risk Assessment for Sustainable Choice Of REmediation (SCORE) in Construction Projects

    Author : Petra Brinkhoff; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; probabilistic risk analysis; sustainability assessment; construction companies; project risk assessment; cost-benefit analysis;

    Abstract : Contamination of soil and/or groundwater is a problem all over the world. There is a desire from politicians and the supervisory authorities to tackle the contamination problem in order to protect future generations. READ MORE

  2. 22. Solid Waste Landfills in an Arid Environment : Site Selection and Design

    Author : Ali Chabuk; Jan Laue; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Hussain M. Hussain; Roland Pusch; Rafid Alkhaddar; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Landfill; Arid Environment; Site selection; Design; Babylon; Iraq; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Selecting landfill sites is considered a complicated task because its whole process is based upon several factors and restrictions. This study shows the present status of solid waste management, sources, collection personnel, machinery and equipment that are involved in the waste collection process, financing and financial management for the major cities of the Babylon Governorate in Iraq (Al-Hillah, Al-Qasim, Al-Mahawil, Al-Hashimiyah and Al-Musayiab). 3. 23. Supplying engineer-to-order joinery products to the construction Industry

    Author : Samuel Forsman; Matilda Höök; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : The supplying of engineer-to-order joinery products to the construction industryis considered a novel research area in the wood-related literature as well as in theconstruction-related literature. The process of supplying the construction industrywith highly refined one-of-a-kind wood products is examined in this thesis, andmore specifically, an organization using a mixture of concept-to-order and designto-order production strategies to produce Engineer-to-order Joinery Products. 4. 24. Strategies for remediation of very large deposits of mine waste : the Aitik mine, Northern Sweden

    Author : Manfred Lindvall; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The Aitik mine, near Gällivare in Sweden, is the largest copper mine in Europe with an annual production exceeding 18 Mt of ore. After processing of the ore the residual waste material, so called tailings, are deposited in a tailings pond. In addition, 15 - 25 Mt of barren waste rock is mined annually in order to provide access to the ore. READ MORE

  5. 25. Life-Cycle Energy and Carbon Implications of Wood-Based Products and Construction

    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; forest products; climate change mitigation; carbon balance; energy; life cycle; wood; land use; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Forests can be an important element of an overall strategy to limit the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) that contributes to climate change. As an integral part of the global carbon cycle, forests remove CO2 from the atmosphere as they grow, and accumulate carbon in tree biomass. READ MORE
