  1. 16. On the Surface of Conducting Polymers : Electrochemical Switching of Color and Wettability in Conjugated Polymer Devices

    Author : Joakim Isaksson; Magnus Berggren; Kajsa Uvdal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Conjugated polymer; electrochemistry; surface energy; electrochromism; contact angle; Electrochemistry; Elektrokemi;

    Abstract : Since the discovery in 1977 that conjugated polymers can be doped to achieve almost metallic electronic conduction, the research field of conducting polymers has escalated, with applications such as light emitting diodes, solar cells, thin film transistors, electrochemical transistors, logic circuits and sensors. The materials can be chemically modified during their synthesis in order to tailor the desired mechanical, electronic and optical properties of the final product. READ MORE

  2. 17. Charge Transport Modulation and Optical Absorption Switching in Organic Electronic Devices

    Author : Peter Andersson; Magnus Berggren; Ronald Österbacka; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electrochromic; photochromic; PEDOT:PSS; active matrix display; switchable charge traps; printed electronics; switchable polarizer; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : Organic electronics has evolved into a well-established research field thanks to major progresses in material sciences during recent decades. More attention was paid to this research field when “the discovery and development of conductive polymers” was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2000. READ MORE

  3. 18. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices

    Author : Iryna Valyukh; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ewa Wäckelgård; Hans Arwin; Ola Hundery; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ellipsometry; liquid crystal; LCD; optical anizotropy; electrochromic; inverse problems; Optics; Optik; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik; Information Systems; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 4. 19. Dynamic and quasi-stationary electrochromic response of amorphous tungsten oxide thin films : In situ combined electrochemical and optical measurements during lithium intercalation

    Author : Edgar Alonso Rojas González; Gunnar Niklasson; Aline Rougier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electrochromism; Optical absorption; Amorphous materials; Tungsten oxide; Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; Color impedance spectroscopy; Intercalation; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : Electrochromic (EC) materials can adjust their optical properties, reversibly, by means of an external electrical stimulus. They have relevant technological applications; for example, energy-efficient smart windows, which can adapt dynamically—according to the given environmental conditions—to control the heat and visible light fluxes between the interior and exterior of a building. 5. 20. Electrochromic Polymer Devices: Active-Matrix Displays and Switchable Polarizers

    Author : Peter Andersson; Magnus Berggren; Nathaniel Robinson; Per Bröms; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : conjugated polymer; PEDOT:PSS; active-matrix; displays; polarizer; polyaniline; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Major efforts have been spent during recent years in worldwide attempts to achieve an electronic paper technology; the common name for novel flexible displays utilizing substrates such as paper, plastics or thin metal sheets. Various kinds of technology are available that potentially will be used for an electronic paper, which differs from each other mainly with respect to the choice of active materials, substrates and manufacturing techniques.
