1. Studies on fibrin gel structure
Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 2. Local regulation of the endogenous fibrinolytic system in man
Abstract : The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA). The endothelium synthesises and stores tPA and regulated release of the enzyme is an important mechanism for removal of fibrin from blood vessels. Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of tPA. READ MORE

3. Antiplasmin the main plasmin inhibitor in blood plasma : studies on structure-function relationships
Abstract : Antiplasmin is an important regulator of the fibrinolytic system. It inactivates plasmin very rapidly. The reaction between plasmin and antiplasmin occurs in several steps: first a lysine-binding site in plasmin interacts with a complementary site in antiplasmin. READ MORE

4. On the Regulation of the Serine Protease t-PA and its Inhibitor PAI-1 in the Brain
Abstract : The serine protease tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) is the main fibrinolytic enzyme in the vascular system, and thus plays a critical role in the dissolution of thrombi. In recent years, researchers have focused on its role within the brain, where t-PA has been shown to participate in a number of physiological and pathophysiological processes, including various aspects of synaptic plasticity and neurodegeneration. 5. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression in the vascular endothelium
Abstract : Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, constitute one way for a cell or an organism to respond to changes in the surrounding environment. While histone modifications are recognized to be quite dynamic, DNA methylation has been considered a more stable, or long-term, modification. READ MORE
