  1. 1. Studies on fibrin gel structure

    Author : Kamaran T Fatah; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Fibrinogen; fibrin gel structure; plasma; thrombin; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel; zinc ion; plasminogen; crosslinking; acetylsalicylic acid; atherosclerosis; coronary heart disease;

    Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 2. 2. Hyperbaric oxygen. Effects on ischemia-reperfusion

    Author : Johan Tjärnström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : fibrinolysis; f-MLP; human; hyperbaric oxygen; neutrophils; normobaric; PAI-1; PMA; rat; t-PA; trauma; uPA;

    Abstract : Treatment with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) is controversial when treating other disorders than decompression sickness. However, HBO2 is a treatment modality that has gained recognition in certain ischemia-reperfusion situations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Contact activation on bacterial surfaces - a virulence mechanism

    Author : Kristin Persson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; sepsis; infection; S. aureus; S. typhimurium; E. coli; curli; fibrinopeptides; fibrinogen; Coagulation; contact system;

    Abstract : Life-threatening conditions from bacterial infections are a major clinical problem. During a severe infection, the host responds by a massive release of pro-inflammatory mediators together with a systemic activation of systems such as the coagulation, fibrinolytic, and complement systems. 5. 5. Diabetic skin microangiopathy : studies on pathogenesis and treatment

    Author : Majid Kalani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes mellitus; chronic foot ulcers; skin microcirculation; peripheral arterial occlusive disease; blood coagulation; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel structure; low molecular weight heparin; dalteparin.;

    Abstract : Background: Most of late diabetic complications have their basis in a disturbed microcirculation, i.e. diabetic microangiopathy. READ MORE
