1. Incidental Gallbladder Cancer : Incidence, predictors, management and outcome in a Swedish population
Abstract : Background: Cholecystectomy is a common surgical procedure and incidental gallbladder cancer is a rare and unexpected finding at a cholecystectomy performed upon benign indications. Whether to perform routine or selective histopathology of the gallbladder specimen is still a subject for discussion. READ MORE

2. Register-based studies on cholecystectomy : Quality of life after cholecystectomy, and cholecystectomy incidence and complications after gastric bypass
Abstract : Cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder) is standard surgical treatment for patients with symptomatic gallstone disease, albeit not without complications. Assessing the impact on quality of life is crucial for appropriate cholecystectomy patient selection, and the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI) is a 36-item questionnaire validated for this purpose. 3. Mechanism-based modeling of biological processes involved in oral absorption
Abstract : For orally administered drugs, the rate and extent of absorption are governed by the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, the characteristics of the dosage form and the physico-chemical properties of the drug. This thesis primarily aimed to improve the mechanistic understanding and the predictability of processes involved in the absorption of orally administered drugs using a population modeling approach. 4. Structure and function of the HDL receptor SR-BI : scavenger receptor class B type I
Abstract : Low plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) are well-recognized risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The uptake and degradation of LDL cholesterol have been characterized in detail at the molecular level. Less is known about the metabolism and cellular uptake of HDL cholesterol. READ MORE

5. Studies on sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1)
Abstract : Human sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) has been studied in the present thesis with focus on substrate specificity and possible role of the enzyme for prevention of accumulation of cholesterol and cholestanol in tissues. Attempts have been made to evaluate a metabolic pathway to bile acids in human primary hepatocytes that starts with a 27-hydroxylation of cholesterol catalyzed by CYP27A1. READ MORE
