  1. 1. Towards Personalized Cancer Therapy : New Diagnostic Biomarkers and Radiosensitization Strategies

    Author : Diana Spiegelberg; Marika Nestor; Bo Stenerlöw; Johan Lennartson; Theodosia Maina-Nock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor targeting; radionuclide targeting; HSP90 inhibition; AT13387; radiosensitization; molecular imaging; combination treatment; EGFR; CD44v6; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the evaluation of biomarkers for radio-immunodiagnostics and radio-immunotherapy and on radiosensitization strategies after HSP90 inhibition, as a step towards more personalized cancer medicine. There is a need to develop new tracers that target cancer-specific biomarkers to improve diagnostic imaging, as well as to combine treatment strategies to potentiate synergistic effects. READ MORE

  2. 2. A clinical positron emission tomography facility : 2-¹⁸FDG studies : development and results

    Author : Tomas G Ohlsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiology; Clinical physics; head and neck cancer; monitoring therapy effect; quantification; normalization; 511 keV SPECT; rotating PET scanner; 2-[18-F]FDG; isotope production; 18-F; PET; positron emission tomography; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Fysicumarkivet A:1996:Ohlsson;

    Abstract : Positron emission tomography (PET) is a tracer technique used for quantitative in vivo studies of physiological and biochemical processes. Because of the use of positron-emitting radionuclides such as 11-C, 13-N, 15-O and 18-F, which are isotopes of the biologically ubiquitous elements, it is possible to label radiopharmaceuticals which trace biochemical processes precisely. 3. 3. Quality assurance for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in radiotherapy

    Author : Mary Adjeiwaah; Tufve Nyholm; Rob HN Tijssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic resonance imaging; Radiotherapy; geometric distortions; patient-induced susceptibilities MR-only; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilizes the magnetic properties of tissues to generate image-forming signals. MRI has exquisite soft-tissue contrast and since tumors are mainly soft-tissues, it offers improved delineation of the target volume and nearby organs at risk. READ MORE

  4. 4. Volumetric assessment of hippocampus and cerebral white matter lesions in structural MRI

    Author : Erik Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; structural MRI; white matter lesions; hippocampal volumetry; reliability; mild cognitive impairment; dementia; low dose radiation;

    Abstract : Assessment in structural MRI like hippocampal volumetry and white matter lesion (WML) assessment is receiving widespread attention and recommen-dation as important research and diagnostic tools. The aim in this thesis is to contribute to enhanced reliability and validity in structural MRI assessment. READ MORE
