  1. 16. Leukocyte dysfunction and inflammatory markers in patients with chronic kidney disease and patients on dialysis

    Author : Jenny Olsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and patients on dialysis are at risk for serious infectious complications. This is partly due to leukocyte dysfunction, which is a consequence of both uremic retention solutes and of dialysis. READ MORE

  2. 17. Factors affecting body weight development and eating behaviour in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis treatment

    Author : Anders Fernström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CAPD; computed tomography; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; electrogastrography; energy intake; ESRD; gastric emptying; HD; intraabdominal fat; protein-energy malnutrition; taste acuity; taste buds;

    Abstract : Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and hemodialysis (HD) have different metabolic effects in dialysis patients, since absorption of intraperitoneal glucose implies an additional energy source in CAPD patients. In spite of this, protein-energy malnutrition is known to occur frequently, both in patients on hemodialysis and in patients on CAPD, and an association with increased morbidity and mortality is well established.
