21. Using on-line simulation in UAV path planning
Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate the problem of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) path planning in search or surveillance mission, when some a priori information about the targets and the environment is available. A search operation that utilizes the available a priori information about the initial location of the targets, terrain data, and information from reasonable assumptions about the targets movement can in average perform better than a uniform search that does not incorporate this information. 22. A walk into the digital world : a long and winding road
Abstract : Radiology departments are changing rapidly due to the implementation of digital image management and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). When new information and communication technologies are implemented, there are organizational effects. READ MORE

23. To be at one's best : The evolution of Optimal Functionality and its possible implementation in an ICT-platform
Abstract : At the Nutrition and Physical Activity Research Centre for Optimal Health and Functionality through Life (NUPARC), a research gap was uncovered regarding the concept optimal functionality based on the older adult’s own perspective. The overall aim was to explore the concept of optimal functionality among older adults and the possibility of creating and developing an ICT-platform to measure it. READ MORE

24. Bringing the avatar to life : Studies and developments in facial communication for virtual agents and robots
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis comes in pursuit of the ultimate goal of building spoken and embodied human-like interfaces that are able to interact with humans under human terms. Such interfaces need to employ the subtle, rich and multidimensional signals of communicative and social value that complement the stream of words – signals humans typically use when interacting with each other. 25. Analysis and Management of Communication in On-Chip Networks
Abstract : Regarding the needs of low-power, high-performance embedded systems and the growing computation-intensive applications, the number of computing resources in a single chip has enormously increased. The current VLSI technology is able to support such an integration of transistors and add many computing resources such as CPU, DSP, specific IPs, etc to build a Systemon- Chip (SoC). READ MORE
