21. Smokeless Tobacco (Snus) and Cardiovascular Disease : Associations with Heart Failure and Prognosis after Myocardial Infarction
Abstract : Previous investigations of snus use (oral moist snuff, a Swedish form of smokeless tobacco) and cardiovascular disease have generally focused on atherosclerotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, likely because smoking is such a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. Smokeless administration of tobacco circumvents most of the atherogenic effects of the combusted products from smoked tobacco, but it is possible that the potent autonomic and hemodynamic effects of snus and nicotine per se are detrimental for cardiovascular tissues. 22. Myocardial creatine metabolism in experimental infarction and heart failure
Abstract : The failing heart is characterized by changes in structure, function and metabolism. All these changes are usually defined as pathologic remodelling. An important part of this negative remodelling process is disturbances in the myocardial energy metabolism. READ MORE

23. Inflammation, platelet aggregation and prognosis in acute myocardial infarction
Abstract : The incidence of stroke and re-infarction is noticeably high in the first few days following acute myocardial infarction. This finding has raised questions whether the systemic inflammatory reaction secondary to myocardial necrosis is involved. READ MORE

24. Life After Myocardial Infarction in Swedish Women and Men : Coping, Social Support and Quality of Life Over the First Year
Abstract : Aims: The general aim of this thesis was to describe the life situation of women and men during their first year after myocardial infarction (MI) with regard to problems in daily life, how they coped with them, the social support available and the patients’ perceived quality of life (QoL). An additional aim was to examine differences over time and between women and men in coping, social support and QoL. READ MORE

25. Clinically Unrecognized Myocardial Scars Detected by MRI
Abstract : A high percentage of unrecognized myocardial infarctions (UMIs) seen at delayed-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DE-MRI) are not detected by ECG. DE-MRI-detected UMIs are independent predictors of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease. READ MORE
