  1. 1. Electrochromic Nickel – Tungsten Oxides : Optical, Electrochemical and Structural Characterization of Sputter-deposited Thin Films in the Whole Composition Range

    Author : Sara Green; Gunnar Niklasson; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Esteban Avendaño; Aline Rougier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrochromism; Nickel oxide; Tungsten oxide; Lithium intercalation; Sputtering; Thin films; Nanostructures; Optical properties; Solid State Physics; Fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the electrochromic NixW1-x oxide thin film system, where 0 < x < 1. The thin films were deposited by reactive DC magnetron co-sputtering from one Ni and one W metal target. In addition, Ni oxide was deposited with water vapor added to the sputtering gas. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices

    Author : Iryna Valyukh; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ewa Wäckelgård; Hans Arwin; Ola Hundery; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ellipsometry; liquid crystal; LCD; optical anizotropy; electrochromic; inverse problems; Optics; Optik; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik; Information Systems; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 3. 3. Electrochromism in Nickel-based Oxides : Coloration Mechanisms and Optimization of Sputter-deposited Thin Films

    Author : Esteban Damián Avendaño Soto; Gunnar Niklasson; Andris Azens; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ulf Helmersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Nickel based Oxide; Electrochromism; Thin Films; Sputtering; Coloration mechanism; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Electrochromic properties of sputter-deposited nickel-based oxide films have been studied with a two-fold goal. From a practical point of view, the optical switching performance has been improved by optimizing the deposition conditions and film stoichiometry with respect to oxygen and hydrogen, and further by adding Mg, Al, Si, Zr, Nb or Ta to the films. 4. 4. Optical Characterization of Solar Collectors form Outdoor Measurements

    Author : Anna Helgesson; Avdelningen för Energi och byggnadsdesign; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Due to high installation costs and relatively low output, the active use of solar energy is limited. The output from a collector can be improved e.g. by using a selective absorber, AR-treated cover glass or transparent insulation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Preparation and Characterization of Sputter Deposited Spectrally Selective Solar Absorbers

    Author : Kristina Gelin; Ewa Wäckelgård; Arne Roos; Björn Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; spectrally selective solar absorber; thermal emittance; solar absorptance; sputter deposition; infrared reflectance; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The optical efficiency of a commercially available sputter deposited spectrally selective solar absorber was improved. The main purposes were to decrease the thermal emittance, increase the solar absorbtance of the absorber and to protect the substrate from degradation due to environmental influence. READ MORE
