  2. 12. Liposuction in Dercum's disease. Clinical studies regarding Dercum's disease and the effect of liposuction

    Author : Emma Hansson; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dercum s disease; Liposuction; Plastic surgery; Chronic pain; Sensitivity; Neuropeptides; Adipose tissue histology;

    Abstract : Dercum’s disease is a rare condition characterised by obesity, chronic pain (>3 months) in the adipose tissue and a number of diffuse associated symptoms, such as fatigue and malaise. The aetiology of the disease is unknown. The experienced pains are often disabling and resistant to most tried treatments, such as analgesics. READ MORE

  3. 13. Interactions between Malignant Keratinocytes and Fibroblasts : Studies in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    Author : Malin Hakelius; Daniel Nowinski; Bengt Gerdin; Kristofer Rubin; Avni Abdiu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coculture; extracellular matrix; interleukin-1 alpha; tumor stroma; differential gene regulation; innate response; Plastic Surgery; Plastikkirurgi;

    Abstract : Carcinoma growth requires a supportive tumor stroma. The concept of reciprocal interactions between tumor and stromal cells has become widely acknowledged and the connective tissue activation seen in the malignant process has been likened to that of a healing wound. READ MORE

  4. 14. Neuroendocrine Stress Response after Burn Trauma

    Author : Andreas Lindahl; Bengt Gerdin; Lisa Ekselius; Kristofer Rubin; Riddez Louis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Burn; Injuries; Neuroendocrine; Intensive Care; Cortisol; Chromogranin A; Natriuretic peptides; Plastikkirurgi; Plastic Surgery;

    Abstract : Some aspects of the stress response during acute intensive care for severe burns are described and quantified by measuring hormonal and neuroendocrine patterns and relating these to organ function in the short term. This includes an assessment of whether there are markers for the severity of stress that are better than conventional descriptors of the severity of a burn in predicting failing organ function. 5. 15. Differentiation of Human Dermal Fibroblasts and Applications in Tissue Engineering

    Author : Pehr Sommar; Gunnar Kratz; Thomas Hansson; Anders Lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue Engineering; Human Dermal Fibroblasts; Differentiation; Adipogenesis; Chondrogenesis; Endotheliogenesis; Osteogenesis; Plastic surgery; Plastikkirurgi;

    Abstract : Tissue engineering applies principles of biology and engineering to the development of functional substitutes for damaged or lost tissues. Tools for the neo-generation of tissue in tissue engineering research include cells, biomaterials and soluble factors. READ MORE
