1. Linear and Nonlinear Transport in Quantum Nanostructures
Abstract : In this thesis, electron transport in mesoscopic semiconductor nanostructures, in particular so-called electron billiards or quantum dots, is studied. The thesis can be divided into two areas: the linear response regime of transport, and the nonlinear response regime of transport. READ MORE

2. Multimode resonant X-ray scattering of free molecules
Abstract : This thesis is focused on the role that nuclear dynamics plays in the formation of X-ray absorption (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of multimode free molecules. A combined approach based on ab initio electronic structure methods and quantum nuclear wave packet dynamics is applied to two systems -- water and methanol in the gas phase. READ MORE

3. Solving the quantum scattering problem for systems of two and three charged particles
Abstract : A rigorous formalism for solving the Coulomb scattering problem is presented in this thesis. The approach is based on splitting the interaction potential into a finite-range part and a long-range tail part. In this representation the scattering problem can be reformulated to one which is suitable for applying exterior complex scaling. READ MORE

4. Effects of the environment on quantum systems: decoherence, bound states and high impedance in superconducting circuits
Abstract : Superconducting circuits in the quantum regime represent a viable platform for microwave quantum optics, quantum simulations and quantum computing. In the last two decades, a large effort brought this architecture from an academic curiosity to concrete technology. READ MORE

5. Quantum Nuclear Dynamics in Resonant X-ray Scattering of Gas-Phase and Liquid Systems
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the role of the nuclear degrees of freedom in X-ray induced molecular processes. An important part of it is devoted to establishing theoretical principles to model and interpret high-resolution resonant X-ray scattering experiments in gases and liquids. READ MORE
