  1. 1. Radiological Studies on Hippocampal Development : Morphological Variants and their Relationship to Epilepsy

    Author : Dragan Bajic; Raili Raininko; Kai Ericson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; Brain development; Hippocampus; Epilepsy; Radiology; Radiologi; Radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : During fetal development, the hippocampal structures are folded forming the hippocampal sulcus which penetrates into the temporal lobe and then the entity rotates.  During this process, the hippocampal sulcus will be closed and the inverted hippocampus takes a rounded form. 2. 2. Radiological evaluation of esophageal function in dysphagia with special emphasis on achalasia

    Author : Mats Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Achalasia; Dysphagia; Radiography; Barium esophagogram; Reproducibility of findings; Observer variation; Laparoscopic myotomy; Balloon dilatation; Esophageal neoplasms;

    Abstract : In idiopathic achalasia, degeneration of the inhibitory innervation of the esophageal smooth muscle results in absence of primary peristalsis and in incomplete relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). All treatments for achalasia aim at reducing the pressure gradient across the LES, thus facilitating esophageal emptying by gravity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Advanced radiological imaging in patients treated with Extracorporeal Memebrane Oxygenation

    Author : Marika Lidegran; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ECMO; computed tomography; magnetic resonance imaging; acute respiratory distress syndrome; thorax; abdomen; intracranial hemorrhage; cerebral infarction; follow-up;

    Abstract : Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is the use of a modified heart-lung machine to support life during severe acute cardiac and/or respiratory failure. Patients on ECMO are at high risk for complications due to the severe underlying disease and to the ECMO procedure itself. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantitative Magnetic Resonance in Diffuse Neurological and Liver Disease

    Author : Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Peter Lundberg; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Marcel Warntjes; Eva Lund; Göran Starck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Abstract : Introduction: Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is one of the most important diagnostic tools in modern medicine. Compared to other imaging modalities, it provides superior soft tissue contrast of all parts of the body and it is considered to be safe for patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Altered proteins in the aging brain

    Author : Adila Elobeid; Irina Alafuzoff; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Thomas Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cognitively unimpaired subjects; Hyperphosphorylated tau; Beta amyloid; Alpha-synclein; Transactive response DNA binding protein 43; Patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : The classification of neurodegenerative disorders is based on the major component of the protein aggregates in the brain. The most common altered proteins associated with neurodegeneration are Hyperphosphorylated tau (HPt), beta amyloid (Aβ), alpha-synclein (αS) and transactive response DNA binding protein 43 (TDP43).
