  1. 1. Arctic Atmospheric Rivers : Eulerian and Lagrangian features, and trends over the last 40 years

    Author : Cheng You; Michael Tjernström; Abhay Devasthale; Heikki Järvinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; Atmospheric river; Stratocumulus; Blocking; Turbulence; Longwave irradiance; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Arctic Atmospheric rivers, termed ‘warm-and-moist intrusion’ (WaMAI) in this thesis, transporting heat and moisture into the Arctic from lower latitudes, is a key contributor to the amplified warming in the Arctic under global change (Arctic Amplification). However, the warming effect of WaMAIs and its transformation along the trajectories into high Arctic still remain unclear, as well as their relation with the large-scale atmospheric circulation. 2. 2. How to estimate environmental persistence : Understanding persistence of organic micropollutants in rivers from a multidisciplinary perspective

    Author : Claudia Coll Mora; Anna Sobek; Matthew MacLeod; Emma J. Rosi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic micropollutants; biodegradation; persistence; rivers; flume mesocosms; Junge relationships; OECD 308 bottle incubations; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Organic micropollutants such as food additives, pharmaceuticals and personal care products are found in rivers worldwide. Persistence is a key criteria in chemical risk assessment as micropollutants that are persistent pose an exposure hazard to humans and the environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fate of perfluoroalkyl acids in the aquatic environment with a focus on mass balance studies

    Author : Marko Filipovic; Urs Berger; Michael McLachlan; Crispin Halsall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAA; PFOS; AFFF; tap water; ground water; WWTP; mass balance; atmospheric deposition; rivers; Baltic Sea; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are man-made chemicals. Their unique properties make them beneficial for a wide range of industrial and consumer product applications, such as in aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), durable water repellent clothing, hydraulic oils and food packaging materials. 4. 4. On the abundance and distribution of organisms in fragmented riverscapes : Insights From Studies On Different Species And Spatiotemporal Scales

    Author : Carl Tamario; Anders Forsman; Petter Tibblin; Erik Petersson; Johan Höjesjö; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Abstract : Dams in rivers modify the habitats and hinder dispersal and migration. Since moving around is an essential part of most organisms’ life histories, this represents a new regime for life in freshwater. READ MORE

  5. 5. Habitat compensation in nature-like fishways : Effects on benthos and fish

    Author : Stina Gustafsson; Olle Calles; Martin Österling; Jostein Skurdal; Paul Giller; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biocanal; biodiversity; brown trout; freshwater pearl mussel; functional feeding groups; habitat heterogeneity; large woody debris; macroinvertebrates; PIT-tag; salmonids; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The construction of nature-like fishways has become an increasingly common measure to restore longitudinal connectivity in streams and rivers affected by hydroelectric development. These fishways also have the potential to function as habitat compensation measures when running waters have been degraded or lost. READ MORE
