  1. 21. Analysis and Modelling of Mineral and Element Composition in Compression Breakage

    Author : Lorena Guldris Leon; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; minerals; rare metals; elements; cone crusher; modelling; compressive crushing;

    Abstract : The outstanding properties of tungsten and tantalum make them valuable metals and, in some cases, irreplaceable in applications. The growing interest due to the high economic importance and the limited supply places these metals in the critical metals risk list. READ MORE

  2. 22. Environmental Perspectives on Urban Material Stocks used in Construction : Granular Materials

    Author : Simon Magnusson; Sven Knutsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The peoples demand of functions and services in cities is the driver for energy and material flows. Most people in the world are now living in urban areas. In order to achieve a sustainable development of cities, both resource use and environmental impact have to be reduced. READ MORE

  3. 23. Stress, Flow and Particle Transport in Rock Fractures

    Author : Tomofumi Koyama; Lanru Jing; Marc Boulon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical simulation; laboratory experiments; rock fracture; coupled stress-flow-tracer test; shear displacement; fluid flow; particle transport; finite element method FEM ; particle tracking method; Navier-Stokes equation; Reynolds equation; streamline velocity dispersion.; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The fluid flow and tracer transport in a single rock fracture during shear processes has been an important issue in rock mechanics and is investigated in this thesis using Finite Element Method (FEM) and streamline particle tracking method, considering evolutions of aperture and transmissivity with shear displacement histories under different normal stresses, based on laboratory tests. The distributions of fracture aperture and its evolution during shear were calculated from the initial aperture fields, based on the laser-scanned surface roughness features of replicas of rock fracture specimens, and shear dilations measured during the coupled shear-flow-tracer tests in laboratory performed using a newly developed testing apparatus in Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan. 4. 24. Influence of aggregates on permanent deformation of asphalt

    Author : Bernardita Francisca Lira Miranda; Robert Lundström; Stefan Larsson; Alan Carter; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Asphalt; deformation; rutting; gradation; flakiness index; Asfalt; kornstorleksfördelning; flisighetsindex; permanent deformation; spårbildning.; Jord- och bergmekanik; Soil and Rock Mechanics;

    Abstract : One of the most common failure modes for asphalt pavements is the occurrence of permanent deformation on the wheel path. This leads to not only other distresses, such as potholes and stripping, but also decreases substantially road safety and increases maintenance costs. READ MORE

  5. 25. Studies of the free mica properties and its influence on quality of road constructions

    Author : Dimitri Kondelchuk; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : The thesis presents series of laboratory studies of aggregates containing mica minerals obtained from aggregate producers located throughout Sweden. The main idea of the research was to study physical properties and behaviour of free mica particles in unbound granular products of crushed rock materials. READ MORE
