  1. 1. Design of Thermal Barrier Coatings : A modelling approach

    Author : Mohit Kumar Gupta; Per Nylén; Nicolaie Markocsan; Christer Persson; Lech Pawlowski; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal barrier coatings; Microstructure; Thermal conductivity; Young’s modulus; Interface roughness; Thermally grown oxide; Lifetime; Finite element modelling; Design; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik;

    Abstract : Atmospheric plasma sprayed (APS) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are commonly used for thermal protection of components in modern gas turbine application such as power generation, marine and aero engines. TBC is a duplex material system consisting of an insulating ceramic topcoat layer and an intermetallic bondcoat layer. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functional Performance of Gadolinium Zirconate/Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Multi-Layered Thermal Barrier Coatings

    Author : Satyapal Mahade; Per Nylén; Nicolaie Markocsan; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Erosion; Gadolinium Zirconate; Suspension Plasma Spray; Thermal Barrier Coatings; Thermal Cyclic Test; Thermal Conductivity; Yttria Stabilized Zirconia; Production Technology; Produktionsteknik; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik;

    Abstract : Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is the state of the art ceramic top coat material used for TBC applications. The desire to achieve a higher engine efficiency of agas turbine engine by increasing the turbine inlet temperature has pushed YSZ toits upper limit. READ MORE

  3. 3. Possibilities of using thermal mass in buildings to save energy, cut power consumption peaks and increase the thermal comfort

    Author : Jonathan Karlsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete; aggregates; heat capacity; thermal properties; thermal conductivity; thermal inertia; thermal mass; time constant; Energy storage;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to generate knowledge to enable us to take advantage of heat storage in heavy building structures with regard to as energy savings, better thermal indoor climate, and reduced peak powers. This could include buildings that can function without energy input during cold periods, buildings that give a robust indoor climate without installed cooling, and buildings with good thermal comfort also in case of higher outdoor temperatures resulting from global warming. 4. 4. Thermal conductivity of wide and ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors

    Author : Dat Tran; Plamen Paskov; Vanya Darakchieva; Martin Kuball; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; III-nitrides; β-Ga2O3; Thermal conductivity; Thermal transport;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis presents experimental and theoretical studies of the thermal conductivity of wide and ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors including GaN, AlN, β-Ga2O3 binary compounds, and AlxGa1−xN, ScxAl1−xN, YxAl1−xN ternary alloys. Thermal conductivity measurements are conducted using the transient thermoreflectance (TTR) technique and the results are interpreted using analytical models based on the solution of the Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) within the relaxation time approximation (RTA). 5. 5. Thermal response test : in situ measurements of thermal properties in hard rock

    Author : Signhild Gehlin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : In-situ determination of thermal properties in bedrock is important for the sizing of larger BTES systems. In-situ values of thermal conductivity may reduce required borehole length up to 30%. This thesis treats a new mobile thermal response test equipment (TED), developed in Luleå, Sweden, 1995-98.
