  1. 1. Ion recombination in liquid ionization chambers : development of an experimental method to quantify general recombination

    Author : Jonas Andersson; Heikki Tölli; Lennart Johansson; Anders Ahnesjö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General recombination; initial recombination; liquid ionization chamber; radiation dosimetry; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : An experimental method (the two-dose-rate method) for the correction of general recombination losses in liquid ionization chambers has been developed and employed in experiments with different liquids and radiation qualities. The method is based on a disassociation of initial and general recombination, since an ionized liquid is simultaneously affected by both of these processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quality assurance for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in radiotherapy

    Author : Mary Adjeiwaah; Tufve Nyholm; Rob HN Tijssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic resonance imaging; Radiotherapy; geometric distortions; patient-induced susceptibilities MR-only; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilizes the magnetic properties of tissues to generate image-forming signals. MRI has exquisite soft-tissue contrast and since tumors are mainly soft-tissues, it offers improved delineation of the target volume and nearby organs at risk. READ MORE

  3. 3. Imaging diffusional variance by MRI [public] : The role of tensor-valued diffusion encoding and tissue heterogeneity

    Author : Filip Szczepankiewicz; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Diffusion MRI provides a non-invasive probe of tissue microstructure. We recently proposed a novel method for diffusion-weighted imaging, so-called q-space trajectory encoding, that facilitates tensor-valued diffusion encoding. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mathematical Modelling of Dose Planning in High Dose-Rate Brachytherapy

    Author : Björn Morén; Torbjörn Larsson; Åsa Carlsson Tedgren; Sebastiaan Breedveld; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer is a widespread type of diseases that each year affects millions of people. It is mainly treated by chemotherapy, surgery or radiation therapy, or a combination of them. One modality of radiation therapy is high dose-rate brachytherapy, used in treatment of for example prostate cancer and gynecologic cancer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Advancements in DSC and BOLD perfusion imaging: Acquisition, analysis and clinical application

    Author : Jonathan Arvidsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Cerebral Blood Flow; Cerebral Blood Volume; Time To Peak; Biophysical modelling; Signal representation; MRI;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on perfusion MRI techniques and topics related to image acquisition, analysis and clinical applications. The first half of the thesis is focused on dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MRI, a technique which is based on the contrast enhancements caused by an intravenously administered paramagnetic contrast agent.
