  1. 1. Hypertension, atherosclerosis and fracture risk - observational investigations with focus on antihypertensive therapy

    Author : Tove Bokrantz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; hypertension; antihypertensive agents; fractures; peripheral arterial disease; bone density;

    Abstract : Aim: To investigate associations between hypertension, arteriosclerotic disease, and fracture risk in adults and the elderly, with a certain focus on how specific antihypertensive drug treatments in patients with high blood pressure might affect the risk for fractures. Methods and results: In Study I and II, the associations between different antihypertensive treatments and fracture risk were investigated in a cohort of about 60. READ MORE

  3. 3. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. Abstract : Abstract Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance. It is associated with increased morbidity and in-hospital mortality. An effective early management is dependent on knowledge of epidemiology in the current population, accurate assessment of patient volume status and efficient diagnostic investigation. READ MORE
