1. Electrical Characterization of Metal-Oxide-Silicon Structures with Ultra Thin Oxide Layers
Abstract : Metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures with very thin (2 - 4 nm) oxide layers thermally grown on silicon have been electrically characterized regarding oxide and interface defects and concerning the direct tunnel current through the oxide. This thesis comprises eight papers which deal with the appearance of oxide charge during electrical stress (papers A, D, E), the beneficial effect on the defect density of low-temperature (up to 350 °C) post-metallization annealing (PMA) (paper A, B, C, G), and the effect of temperature and choice of metal for the tunnel current (paper F, H). 2. Metal Oxide Thin Films and Nanostructures Made by ALD
Abstract : Thin films of cobalt oxide, iron oxide and niobium oxide, and nanostructured thin films of iron oxide, titanium oxide and multilayered iron oxide/titanium oxide have been deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). The metal oxides were grown using the precursor combinations CoI2/O2, Fe(Cp)2/O2, NbI5/O2 and TiI4/H2O. READ MORE

3. Thin Film Synthesis of Nickel Containing Compounds
Abstract : Most electrical, magnetic or optical devices are today based on several, usually extremely thin layers of different materials. In this thesis chemical synthesis processes have been developed for growth of less stable and metastable layers, and even multilayers, of nickel containing compounds. READ MORE

4. Electrochromism in Metal Oxide Thin Films : Towards long-term durability and materials rejuvenation
Abstract : Electrochromic thin films can effectively regulate the visible and infrared light passing through a window, demonstrating great potential to save energy and offer a comfortable indoor environment in buildings. However, long-term durability is a big issue and the physics behind this is far from clear. READ MORE

5. Window Layer Structures for Chalcopyrite Thin-Film Solar Cells
Abstract : This thesis aims to contribute to the development of improved window layer structures for chalcopyrite thin-film solar cells, with an emphasis on the buffer layer, to assist future reductions of the levelized cost of energy. This is realized by exploring the potential of existing materials and deposition processes, as well as developing new buffer layer processes based on atomic layer deposition (ALD). READ MORE
