  1. 1. Investigation of Coordination Modes of Organosulfur Ligands to osmium and Rhodium Carbonyl Clusters- Possible Relevance to Hydrodesulfurization Reactions

    Author : Nitsa Kiriakidou-Kazemifar; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thioethers; thiols; HDS processes; organosulfur compounds; polynuclear metal complexes; Metallorganisk kemi; Organometallic chemistry; thiophenes;

    Abstract : The coordination and fundamental transformations of organosulfur compounds to polynuclear metal complexes has been studied as models for possible surface species in industrial HDS processes. Reactions between [Os3(CO)11(NCMe)] and various thiols have been studied by UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectroscopy and all experimental findings indicate that the reactions proceed via a two-step consecutive process involving the intermediate [Os3(CO)11(RSH)], which contains an agostic Os-H-S interaction, and which leads to the formation of the final product [Os3(CO)10(m-H)(m-SR)]. 2. 2. Structure-Reactivity Correlations for Reactions of Palladium(II) and Platinum(IV) Complexes

    Author : Tiesheng Shi; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thiol; l-methionine; maleic acid; carboxylic acid; thioether; platinum IV ; palladium II ; linear free energy relationship; volumes of activation; structure-reactivity correlation; reduction; substitution; equilibria; kinetics; mechanism; glutathione; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : The kinetics and mechanism for substitution reactions on tetraaquapalladium(II) by an extended series of thioethers, a great number of carboxylic acids, and olefins have been studied by use of UV-VIS, stopped-flow, and high-pressure stopped-flow spectrophotometry and NMR spectroscopy. Second-order rate constants k and activation parameters (activation enthalpies, entropies, and volumes) for formation of monodentate 1:1 complexes have been determined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Packing effects in palladium(II) and platinum(II) compounds, X-ray crystallography

    Author : Maria Johansson; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Platinum II ; Palladium II ; Half-normal probability plots; X-ray crystallography; Packing effects; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on i) the effect of packing on the molecular geometry ii) packing arrangements of neutral Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes iii) the trans influence in Pt(II) complexes iv) the differences in bonding in corresponding Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes and v) the geometry of Pd(II) complexes with potential catalytic properties. Detailed three-dimensional structural information at the atomic level can be obtained from X-ray crystallography. READ MORE

  4. 4. New C-C coupling Reactions Enabled by Main-group Organometallics

    Author : Kilian Colas; Abraham Mendoza; David Procter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C-C coupling; organometallics; aluminum; magnesium; Grignard; turbo-Hauser-bases; piperazines; sulfur; ketones; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The carbon-carbon bond has always been at the very core of chemical research. Strategies for the creation of C−C bonds are one of the keys to the construction game that organic chemists play with the building blocks provided by Nature, with the ultimate goal of producing useful molecular structures that will serve society as medicines, materials, imaging tools, catalysts, and ligands (to mention but a few).
