  1. 1. Synthesis of extended thiophene systems : materials for electronical and optical applications

    Author : Tommi Remonen; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis the synthesis and some material properties ofdifferent extended thiophene systems have been studied. One ofthe areas studied is the synthesis of methyl- and methylthiosubstituted dithienothiophene donors and their abilities toform cation radieal- and charge transfer salts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis and optical characterization of optical power limiting platinum(II) acetylides

    Author : Marcus Carlsson; Bertil Eliasson; Jerker Mårtensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Platinum acetylides; nonlinear absorption; optical power limiting; Sonogashira coupling; solution gels; thiophene; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Interactions between light and a molecule can result in reversible or irreversible changes in properties of both the light and the molecule. Of the many known interactions, nonlinear absorption is a process in which an intense light signal, for instance from a laser, can be moderated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organic and organometallic compounds for nonlinear absorption of light

    Author : Per Lind; Bertil Eliasson; Adolf Gogoll; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Organic chemistry; Nonlinear absorption; thiophene; platinum complexes; optical limiting; sonogashira coupling reactions; molecular orbital calculations; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The demand for protection of eyes and various types of optical sensors from laser-beam pulses has resulted in the search for optical limiting devices that have the property of being transparent at low intensity of light (normal light), but non-transparent towards high intensity (laser) light. This type of protection may be obtained by using an organic material that displays nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Ring-Opening Reaction of Thiophene-1,1-dioxides and the Intramolecular Diels-Alder Reaction of Azanona- and AzadecatrienesI

    Author : Anders Sebastian Tsirk; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition states; 3-21G * ; intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions; asymmetric induction; multivariate optimization; kinetic isotope effects; rearrangements; secondary amines; 1-dioxides; Ring-opening reaction; thiophene-1; stereoselectivity.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Substituted thiophene-1,1-dioxides were synthesized and their ring-opening reactions with omega-unsaturated secondary amines were investigated; this led to a synthetic route to azatrienes and to the preparation of some polyhydroisoindoles and polyhydroisoquinolines via an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. By using 2-substituted pyrrolidines and piperidines various tetrahydrobenzo[f]indolizidines, benzo[b]quinolizidines, tetrahydrobenzo[a]indolizidines and tetrahydro[a]pyrrolizidines could be synthesized via the ring-opening of 3-bromo-2,5-dimmethylthiophene-1,1-dioxide and a subsequent intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. 5. 5. Living biohybrid systems via in vivo polymerization of thiophene oligomers

    Author : Gwennaël Dufil; Eleni Stavrinidou; Daniel T Simon; David C. Martin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Conducting polymers; Living tissue engineering; In vivo polymerization; Plant Biohybrids; Hydra polyps; Energy storage; Glucose sensor;

    Abstract : Life is the result of a multitude of electrical signals which drives our nervous system but also accomplishes a cascade of electrochemical reactions. In the 18th century, Lucia Galeazzi and Luigi Galvani got the idea to stimulate frog legs with electrodes. READ MORE
