  1. 1. Synthesis of new building blocks for conjugated oligomers

    Author : Fredrik Allared; KTH; []
    Keywords : organic semiconductors; thiophenes; heterocyclic synthesis; dithienothiophene; naphthalene;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the synthesis of new organicmaterials for electronic applications. Several new ring-formingmethods are employed to construct sulphur heterocycles: Tandemelectrophilic aromatic substitution and acid-catalyzedtransetherification of methoxythiophene, double electrophilicaromatic substitutions with ethane-1, 2-disulphenyl chloride,and also, the reaction of dienes with sulphur dichloride. 2. 2. Investigation of Coordination Modes of Organosulfur Ligands to osmium and Rhodium Carbonyl Clusters- Possible Relevance to Hydrodesulfurization Reactions

    Author : Nitsa Kiriakidou-Kazemifar; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thioethers; thiols; HDS processes; organosulfur compounds; polynuclear metal complexes; Metallorganisk kemi; Organometallic chemistry; thiophenes;

    Abstract : The coordination and fundamental transformations of organosulfur compounds to polynuclear metal complexes has been studied as models for possible surface species in industrial HDS processes. Reactions between [Os3(CO)11(NCMe)] and various thiols have been studied by UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectroscopy and all experimental findings indicate that the reactions proceed via a two-step consecutive process involving the intermediate [Os3(CO)11(RSH)], which contains an agostic Os-H-S interaction, and which leads to the formation of the final product [Os3(CO)10(m-H)(m-SR)]. 3. 3. Synthesis and Properties of Substituted Poly(thiophenes)

    Author : Mats Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to synthesize new substituted poly(thiophenes) with certain desired properties. Soluble and meltable poly(thiophenes) can be prepared if a long alkyl side-chain is attached to each thiophene ring along the polymer backbone. Such polymers show electrical conductivity when they are doped (oxidised). READ MORE

  4. 4. Structure and properties of poly (3-alkyl thiophenes)

  5. 5. Dendron decorated chromophores for optical power limiting applications

    Author : Robert Vestberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Life sciences and physical sciences; polymer chemistry; optics physics; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The need for protection of eyes and electro-optic sensors from powerful lasers has increased the need for new and better optical power limiting (OPL) materials that can protect against laser light. In this study the synthesis and characterization of dendron-coated OPL chromophores (porphyrins, thiophenes, and platinum(II) acetylides) are discussed. READ MORE
