1. Flexible Synthesis of Rigid Cyclophanes - Synthesis and derivatisation of 2,7-diaza-1,2,3,6,7,8-hexahydropyrene into chiral macrocycles
Abstract : Rigid, chiral and amphiphilic cyclophanes of potential use as biomimetic host molecules were prepared by cyclic dimerisation of chiral diamino building blocks with amino-reactive cross-linking reagents. A reliable synthesis of the scaffold 2,7-diaza-1,2,3,6,7,8-hexahydropyrene was developed. READ MORE

2. Analytical methodologies for common skin allergens : Organic thioureas, isothiocyanates and fragrance hydroperoxides in everyday life products
Abstract : This thesis describes analytical methodologies for the determination of important skin-sensitizing chemicals in two types of commercial items: chloroprene rubber and fragrance products which are both well-known to be associated with contact allergy.Chloroprene rubber (neoprene) is widely used in different applications and products, such as bags, gloves, wetsuits, braces, mouse pads et c. 3. A study of the stereochemistry and electronic transitions of cyclic and acyclic thioamides by crystallography, spectroscopy and computational methods
Abstract : Analysis of conformations and electron transitions of 3-(alkyl or aralkyl)-5-(methyl or phenyl)rhodanines with analogues and N,N'-bis[(S)-1-phenylethyl]-thiourea have been performed by X-ray crystallography, 1H NMR, molecular mechanics, ultraviolet spectroscopy and for the chiral rhodanines, enantiomer chromatography and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The magnitude of rotational barriers has been determined. READ MORE

4. Melanogenesis as the basis for melanoma targeting
Abstract : The incidence of malignant melanoma has increased rapidly during the last decades, and the prognosis for disseminated melanoma is poor. The melanoma cells produce melanin, and therefore the melanogenesis may serve as a target for treatment of melanotic melanoma; thioureyelenes such as thiourea and 2-thiouracil, e.g. READ MORE

5. Synthesis and structure activity relationship studies of non-nucleoside HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitors
Abstract : HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) is a target for anti-HIV chemotherapy. A series of PETT PhenylEthylThiazoleThiourea) non-nucleoside HIV-1 RT inhibitors were synthesised. All compounds were tested in an HIV-1 RT enzyme assay, and in cell culture using MT-4 cells and wild-type virus. READ MORE
