  1. 1. Long-Term Outcome of Fractures of the Thoracic and Lumbar Spine

    Author : Anders Möller; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Schmorl s nodes; Thoracic; Disc degeneration; Adolescents; Children; Lumbar; Burst fractures; Non-operative; Long-term outcome; Vertebral fractures;

    Abstract : From the radiographic archives at the Malmö University Hospital, Malmö, Sweden, we identified children below age 16 years (n=74) and adolescents between 16 to 18 years (n=40) with a clinically and radiographically diagnosed thoracic or lumbar vertebral fracture between 1950 to 1971 (with exception of two years of missing radiographs), and all adults above age 18 years (n=39) with a non-operatively treated thoracic or lumbar burst fracture during the years 1965 to 1973. Fractures were classified according to Denis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of a Mechanical Model for Rear Impacts: Evaluation of Volunteer Responses and Validation of the Model

    Author : Johan Davidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; whiplash; validation; rear impact; dummy; seat; spine; rear-end collision; volunteer; BioRID; neck;

    Abstract : The objective of this research has been to develop a biofidelic crash-test dummy to facilitate design of seat systems with enhanced occupant protection in rear-end collisions. These frequent collisions may cause soft-tissue neck injuries to occupants in struck vehicles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Radio Frequency Systems for NMR Imaging: Coil Development and Studies of Non-Thermal Biological Effects

    Author : Lars Malmgren; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anechoic chamber; TEM transmission cells; FDTD; circularly polarized electromagnetic fields; reduced coupling; noise matching; matching networks; low noise amplifiers; upper thoracic spine; surface coils; Nuclear magnetic resonance; magnetic resonance imaging; non-thermal biological effects; blood-brain barrier; Electronics; Elektronik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns both design and optimization of NMR imaging systems and studies on non-thermal biological effects of electromagnetic fields. These two research fields are linked together by the fact that humans are subject to static and pulsed magnetic fields as well as to magnetic radio frequency fields (RF) during an NMR imaging investigation. 4. 4. Biomechanics of back extension torque production about the lumbar spine

    Author : Karl Daggfeldt; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Medicin Teknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to develop a realistic mechanical description of lumbar back extension torque production. Such a description is desirable for understanding how back extension torque is generated as well as how the spine and surrounding structures are loaded during back extension tasks. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spinal mobility, muscle strength and function in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Different aspects on long term outcome

    Author : Karin Romberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; idiopathic scoliosis; long-term outcome; spinal mobility; trunk muscle endurance; back function; thoracic mobility; pulmonary function; validity;

    Abstract : Introduction: The long-term physical function outcome in patients treated for idiopathic scoliosis (IS) during childhood and adolescence has not been fully explored. In addition, there is a lack of studies where different methods to measure pulmonary function are validated in patients with early onset scoliosis. READ MORE
