1. The Prevalence of Radioactivity in a Number of Non-Nuclear Industries
Abstract : Four different non-nuclear industries have been investigated regarding the presence of radioactive elements, with the focus on natural radioactivity. The aim of the studies was to investigate the flow of radionuclides in the processes and/or to estimate doses to exposed workers. READ MORE

2. Improved PWR Core Characteristics with Thorium-containing Fuel
Abstract : Thorium is an element for possible use as nuclear fuel, because of the fertile property of Th-232, which could convert into U-233 after neutron capture and beta decays. However, thorium based fuels have not been successfully implemented, because of the high cost and the higher complexity compared with once-through uranium fuel. READ MORE

3. Thorium fuels for light water reactors - steps towards commercialization
Abstract : Thorium-containing nuclear fuel is proposed as a means of gaining a number of benefits in the operation of light water reactors, some related to the nuclear properties of thorium and some related to the material properties of thorium dioxide. This thesis aims to investigate some of these benefits and to widen the knowledge base on thorium fuel behaviour, in order to pave the way for its commercial use. READ MORE

4. Studies of actinides in a superanoxic fjord
Abstract : Water column and sediment profiles of plutonium, americium, thorium and uranium have been obtained in the superanoxic Framvaren fjord, southern Norway. The concentrations of bomb test fallout Pu, Am as well as 'dissolved' Th in the bottom water are the highest recorded in the marine environment. READ MORE

5. Complexation of Thorium with Phosphates and Silicates under Repository Conditions
Abstract : In order to make reliable performance assessments of the safety for planed underground repositories for spent nuclear fuel large amounts of chemical thermodynamical data is needed. In some cases the databases used for modeling the migration behavior of radionuclides in groundwater is missing data. READ MORE
