  1. 1. Child survival in Rwanda: Challenges and potential for improvement : Population- and hospital-based studies

    Author : Aimable Musafili; Lars-Åke Persson; Birgitta Essén; Baribwira Cyprien; Göran Tomson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Trends; social differentials; child mortality; perinatal mortality; perinatal audit; three delays model; training healthcare workers; Helping Babies Breathe; urban hospitals; Kigali; Rwanda; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : After the 1994 genocide and collapse of the health system, Rwanda initiated major social and health reforms in order to reduce child mortality and health inequities in accordance with the Millennium Development Goals. The aim of this thesis was to assess trends in under-five mortality (U5M) and equity in child survival, to study social barriers for improved perinatal and neonatal survival, and to evaluate Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), a newborn resuscitation program. 2. 2. CALLUM Linear Transmitter - Architecture and Circuit Analysis

    Author : Roland Strandberg; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telekommunikationsteknik; Telecommunication engineering; loop time delay; modulation negative feedback; spectral emissions; baseband model; CALLUM; Linear transmitter architecture; power amplifier linearization;

    Abstract : This doctoral dissertation presents a study of linear radio transmitters based on the combined analog locked loop universal modulator (CALLUM) approach. Linear architectures such as CALLUM are very attractive for power-efficient operations, since they have no fundamental limitations prohibiting a 100% efficiency for all envelope levels, without sacrificing the potential of a linear transmission. 4. 4. Control over the Cloud : Offloading, Elastic Computing, and Predictive Control

    Author : Per Skarin; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud; Control Theory; Model Predictive Control; Offloading; Elastic Computing; Networks; Utility Computing; Cloud Services; Internet-of-Things; Distributed Cloud; 5G Systems;

    Abstract : The thesis studies the use of cloud native software and platforms to implement critical closed loop control. It considers technologies that provide low latency and reliable wireless communication, in terms of edge clouds and massive MIMO, but also approaches industrial IoT and the services of a distributed cloud, as an extension of commercial-of-the-shelf software and systems. 5. 5. Gender matters : understanding of access barriers to community-based tuberculosis care in Bangladesh

    Author : Fazlul Karim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Community-based DOTS programme; Bangladesh; Gender; Delays; Stigma; Cultural epidemiology; Socio-economic divides; Smear-positive PTB prevalence;

    Abstract : Background: Females lesser use of TB control services is a grave concern worldwide, entailing more gender research in quest of practical remedies. Objective: To understand the gender differences in various clinical steps for TB care, explore gender-specific access barriers to TB control; and measure smear-positive PTB prevalence in different population groups of rural Bangladesh.
