1. Applications of active materials
Abstract : Energy efficiency is a vital key component when designing and miniaturizing self sustained microsystems. The smaller the system, the smaller is the possibility to store enough stored energy for a long and continuous operational time. READ MORE

2. The human skeletal muscle in vivo : the use of microdialysis to study glucose metabolism and insulin resistance
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to further develop the microdialysis technique for studies of glucose metabolism and insulin resistance in human skeletal muscle in vivo and to use this technique to explore the effect of exercise on muscle glucose metabolism and insulin action. The first two studies were conducted to explore the possibility of using a perfusion flow rate low enough to obtain complete equilibrium between the interstitial and perfusion fluids and if the colloid included in the perfusion fluid for this purpose affected the metabolite concentrations in the dialysate. 3. Incentives in Contests
Abstract : This dissertation investigates players' incentives in contests, settings where players expend resources or effort to win a given prize. It consists of three standalone papers (Chapter 2-4), preceded by introductory remarks (Chapter 1). Accuracy in contests: Players' perspective. READ MORE

4. Actuators for autonomous microrobots
Abstract : This thesis presents actuators used in autonomous microsystems. Characteristic for all actuators presented is the low drive voltage and the low power consumption. Different motion mechanisms have been studied and applied in various locomotion modules for microrobots. READ MORE

5. Predator-prey interactions of raptors in an arctic environment
Abstract : This thesis concerns the predator-prey interactions of three raptor species in a Swedish arctic community: the gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus), the rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). The gyrfalcon behaved like a highly specialised ptarmigan (Lagopus spp.) predator. READ MORE
