  1. 1. Infant and child mortality in Eritrea : levels, trends, and determinants

    Author : Gebremariam Woldemicael; Basia Zaba; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : demografi; Demography;

    Abstract : This thesis has three main objectives: first, to estimate age-specific levels, age patterns and period trends in early mortality at national and sub-national levels in Eritrea; second, to investigate the major possible determinants of infant and child mortality; and third to discuss implications of the main findings for health policy and future research directions.The data used for this study come from the 1995 Eritrea Demographic and Health Survey of 5,469 households and 5,054 women in the reproductive age span. 2. 2. Eosinophil Cationic Protein : Expression Levels and Polymorphisms

    Author : Jonas Byström; Helene Rosenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Monocytes; Macrophages; mRNA; eosinophil cationic protein; DNA; polymorphism; Hodgkin Lymphoma; asthma; allergy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is usually associated with the eosinophil granulocyte. In this thesis the presence and production of this protein has been studied in two other cells. The circulating monocyte was found to contain ECP mRNA and small amounts of ECP, one thousand times less than that found in the eosinophil. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human intestinal alkaline phosphatase : tissue expression and serum levels

    Author : Ulla Domar; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human alkaline phosphatase; intestinal alkaline phosphatase; blood; blood group; lipid; monoclonal antibody; immunohistochemistry; liver; kidney; pancreas; liver disease; inflammatory bowel disease;

    Abstract : Human alkaline phosphatase (ALP) comprises four isozymes, viz liver/bone/ kidney or tissue unspecific (AP), intestinal (LAP), placental (PLAP) and germ cell or PLAP-like alkaline phosphatase, with their main expression in specific tissues as indicated by their names. The isozymes are coded by different genes, but they are closely related, with more than 50% amino acid sequence homologies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Resonances in Three-Body Systems

    Author : Muhammad Umair; Svante Jonsell; Yasushi Kino; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Three particles interacting via Coulomb forces represent a fundamental problem in quantum mechanics with no known exact solution. We have investigated resonance states composed of three particles interacting via Coulombic and more general potentials in non-relativistic quantum mechanics, using the complex scaling method. Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. READ MORE
